Sejak diangkat menjadi Menteri Pertanian tahun 2014, Amran sudah mewakafkan dirinya untuk membangun sektor pertanian. Selain beras, Amran harus memperhatikan 460 komoditas pertanian.
Kinerja Kementerian Pertanian selama empat tahun pemerintahan Jokowi – JK, termasuk baik. Di bawah kepemimpinan Amran Sulaiman, Kementerian Pertanian berhasil mencatatkan ekspor pertanian (periode 2016 -2017) naik 24,47 persen.
Investasi di sektor pertanian juga tercatat naik signifikan (110%). Tahun 2013 Rp 29,3 triliun, tahun 2018 menjadi Rp.61 triliun.
Mafia pangan juga tak luput dari perhatian. Menteri Pertanian Amran Sulaiman mengklaim, pada perioden kepemimpinannya, mafia pangan tak dikasih kesempatan. Tak ada ampun bagi mafia pangan. Semua demi satu tujuan Indonesia : 'Menuju Lumbung Pangan Dunia' di tahun 2045.
