Vultures in the tech blogosphere are circling over Yahoo CEO Scott Thompson after he was called out by a disgruntled shareholder for lying on his resume and calling for an independent investigation to determine if Thompson should remain in his post. Daniel Loeb, whose fund Third Point owns a 5.8 percent stake in Yahoo, pointed out that Thompson claims he has a bachelor's degree in computer science, when in fact he graduated with a degree in accounting. In a letter to Yahoo's board, Loeb wrote, 'If Mr. Thompson embellished his academic credentials we think that it... undermines his credibility as a technology expert.' Yahoo, which hired Thompson from PayPal in January to help reverse its years-long financial slump, called the resume padding 'an inadvertent error' but later said it will review the matter and report back to shareholders. San Francisco: Yahoo has confirmed a shareholder's allegation that its chief executive officer (CEO) Scott Thompson did not have a computer science degree as claimed, saying that it is 'an inadvertent error'.
'Scott Thompson's degree at Stonehill College was in bachelor science in accounting. There was an inadvertent error that stated Thompson also holds a degree in computer science,' said Yahoo in a statement to technology news site AllThingsD.
'This, in no way, alters that fact that Thompson is a highly qualified executive with a successful track record leading large consumer technology companies,' said Yahoo.
Thompson has been under fire after Yahoo shareholder Dan Loeb alleged that Thompson does not have a computer science degree from Stonehill College as claimed in bios from his job at eBay to the current Yahoo position, as well as in regulatory filings to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, reported Xinhua.
According to Loeb, he was informed by Stonehill College that Thompson only graduated with a degree in accounting and the school did not begin awarding computer science degrees until 1983, four years after Thompson graduated.

Yahoo is investigating claims that its CEO Scott Thompson has been lying about his degree from Stonehill College. A stockholder of the company blew the whistle on Thompson, claiming that his computer science degree was a fraud, and that he only graduated with a degree in business administration. Stonehill has verified this claim.
This accusation comes at a very turbulent time. The company has struggled under four different CEO's in the past five years. If Thompson did lie about his degree he could lose his job. With their looming patent battle with Facebook, another void in leadership is the last thing Yahoo needs.

LinkedIn announced yesterday that they plan to acquire SlideShare, a website those crowdsources professional presentations. The acquisition will cost the social platform $118.75 million in cash and stock.
LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner sees this as an opportunity for the sites users to further enrich their professional lives. Through the information available on Slideshare, LinkedIn users can further connect and gain insights about their industry. 'Presentations are one of the main ways in which professionals capture and share their experiences and knowledge,' he said in a statement.
