Strange, a New Romantic pioneer, was born in Newbridge, Caerphilly county, and got involved in music after seeing the Sex Pistols in concert in 1976.
He went to London aged 15 to work for Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McClaren before setting up the Blitz Club in Soho, central London, which would become a focal point for the New Romantic movement.
Bands including Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet and Culture Club all got their start at the club before finding stardom.
His agent, Pete Bassett, said he would be remembered as 'a hard-working, very amusing and lovable individual who always was at the forefront of fashion trends'..

Singer-songwriter Joe South died yesterday from a heart attack, his music publisher has said.
South is best-known for performing hits in the late 1960s and early 1970s such as Games People Play and Walk A Mile In My Shoes, and also penned songs including Down in the Boondocks for other artists
South, whose real name was Joseph Souter, died aged 72 at his home in Buford, Georgia., northeast of Atlanta, according to Marion Merck of the Hall County Coroner's office.
'He's one of the greatest songwriters of all time,' said Butch Lowery, president of the Lowery Group, which published South's music. 'His songs have touched so many lives. He's such a wonderful guy and loved by many.'
South worked as a session guitar player on recordings of some of the biggest names of the 1960s — Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan and Simon & Garfunkel, among others. But he had a string of hits of his own starting in the late 1960s that made his booming voice a familiar one on radio stations, with a style that some described as a mix of country and soul.

Actress and singer Bernie Nolan has died at the age of 52, following a long battle with breast cancer.
The former lead singer of The Nolans was first diagnosed in 2010, and had chemotherapy and a mastectomy, receiving an all-clear in 2012.
However, months later the disease returned and spread to her brain, bones, lungs and liver.
In recent years she was best known for her acting roles in The Bill and Channel 4 soap Brookside.
'Bernie passed away peacefully this morning with all of her family around her,' said a spokesperson for the family.
'The entire family are devastated to have lost beloved Bernie, a wonderful wife, adoring mother and loving sister, she is irreplaceable.'
Born on 17 October 1960, she grew up in Ireland, performing as a family troupe with her five sisters and two brothers. Her father Tommy would go on to be the Nolans' manager - but after his death, eldest sister Anne revealed he had sexually abused her from the age of 11.
Nolan turned to acting following 20 years fronting the Irish all-girl group and a string of hits including 1979's I'm in the Mood for Dancing and Don't Make Waves.
She left the group in 1994, and took to the stage, performing in productions including Blood Brothers in London's West End, Flashdance and a UK tour of Chicago the Musical.
