Rahul Gandhi addressed a massive public rally at Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu on April 21, 2014.

Rahul Gandhi said that the fight of the Congress Party in the state is not just limited to the LokSabha elections, but is geared towards achieving the larger objective of forming a Congress government in the state.

'After a very long time, we are fighting on our own in the state. I am proud to see our workers all charged up and ready to fight the elections under the banner of the Congress Party. Now we don't have to compromise. And we will fight to not only win these elections, but form a Congress government in the state in the times to come,' he said.

Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress Party drew inspiration from the great Tamil leader, K Kamraj, for many of its programmes and that the people of the state should vote for a party that believes in uniting India and working for the poor.

'This is a LokSabha election and the regional parties from Tamil Nadu are not going to be in a position to form the government in Delhi. You must ensure that a pro-poor and secular government is formed. We don't need a government that promotes hatred and anger. We don't need a government that makes Hindus fight Muslims. We don't need a government that imposes ideas from one state on to another,' he said..
