Based in the pre-independence era (1943) in Calcutta, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy is, obviously, a whodunnit. Bakshy is goofy, but at the same time also a whiz kid, whose observational skills are par excellence. While playing carom in Calcutta's iconic Coffee House, he is approached by Ajit Bandyopadhyay played by Anand Tiwari, who seeks Bakshy's help in locating his father Bhuvan who has gone missing. Once Bakshy takes up the case, he takes us on a journey from Lalbazaar to China Town to Bosepukur and more. Byomkesh is helped by Dr Anukul Guha played by Neeraj Kabi in his cat and mouse chase. Along the way comes Anguri Devi played by Swastika Mukherjee, a woman who hides more than she reveals and always seems to be in seducing mode. But soon Bakshy babu realizes that he is being led on a wrong trail, so who really is the murderer? Or is the murder just a step to a more sinister plan? I cant tell you ofcourse, otherwise Dibakar da shall have me crucified, and hence you shall have to watch the movie to find out.

Sushant Singh Rajput becomes Byomkesh Bakshy and you want to see more of him as this character in the years to come. He manages to hold the audience's attention throughout the movie. Swastika plays the 24*7 seductress and maintains an air of mystery around her. Anand Tiwari gives great support to Bakshy's character throughout the film and does full justice to his role.
