Google marked the 135th birthday of freedom fighter Sarojini Naidu, also known as 'The Nightingale of India' by posting a doodle on its India home page.
Born on this day in 1879 as Sarojini Chattopadhyaya in Hyderabad, she joined the freedom movement after the partition of Bengal in 1905. She presided over the annual session of the Indian National Congress at Kanpur in 1925.
She married Dr Govindarajulu Naidu, a doctor by profession at the age of 19.
Naidu was awarded the Kaiser-i-Hind medal by the British government for her work during the plague epidemic in India.
She was the first woman to become the Governor of Uttar Pradesh.
Sarojini Naidu died of heart attack on March 2, 1949.

Google fêtes Madhubala's 86th birth anniversary with a special doodle. The doodle was made by Bangalore-based artist Muhammed Sajid. The icon of Indian cinema was also known as 'The Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood'. She appeared in over 70 films over the course of a tragically brief career. Theatre Arts magazine called her 'The Biggest Star in the World' in 1952. In 2008, she featured on a commemorative postage stamp in India.

Google is commemorating the 95th birth anniversary of Qureshi Alla Rakha Khan, the tabla maestro more popularly known as Ustad Alla Rakha, with a Goodle doodle on Tuesday.
Born on April 29 in 1919 in Paghwal, Jammu, Ustad Alla Rakha is said to have become fascinated by the table at age 12, and soon ran away from home to study the Indian percussion instrument (also featured in the doodle) under Mian Kader Baksh of the Punjab gharana, before studying voice at the Patiala gharana.
Famously known as an accompanist, the subject of Google's most recent doodle frequently accompanied Ravi Shankar, the famous sitar maestro. According to his Wikipedia page, Ustad Alla Rakha began his career as an accompanist in Lahore, before heading to Bombay to work at All India Radio in 1940, where he famously played the station's first broadcasted tabla solo.
Ustad Alla Rakha married Bavi Begum, and had three sons, Fazal Qureshi, Taufiq Qureshi, and the famous table maesto, Zakir Hussain, apart from a daughter Khurshid Aulia née Qureshi.
In Tuesday's non-animated doodle, Google features Ustad Alla Rakha prominently, with the maestro beatifically playing the two drums of the tabla that also serve as the two 'O' letters in the Google logo.

Internet giant Google on Wednesday celebrated the 215th anniversary of the birth of British palaeontologist Mary Anning with a special doodle.
The Google homepage shows Mary Anning hunting for fossils with the fossilized remains of the animals making up Google's letters.
Anning is best known for her work collecting fossils from the Jurassic period near her home in Lyme Regis Dorset.
Born on May 21st 1799, Anning contributed to fundamental changes that occurred during her lifetime in scientific thinking about prehistoric life and the history of the Earth. Her first discovery was a skull, when she was just twelve, along with her brother Joseph.
Despite her popularity in Britain, Europe and America, Mary Anning couldn't make it to the Geological Society of London on account of her gender.
Anning died of cancer, aged 47, on 9th March 1847.

When she was 15, Soviet authorities executed her father for being a ‘state enemy'. She triumphed over personal tragedy to become one of the most influential thinkers of her generation. Olga got her PhD under renowned mathematician Ivan Petrovsky in Moscow State University. Russian Academy of Sciences awarded her the Lomonosov Gold Medal in 2002. She has authored more than 250 papers.

Honouring the same spirit of the late South African president, Google on Friday released its latest doodle celebrating the 96th birth anniversary of the charismatic leader. The interactive doodle showcases different stages of Mandela's life, along with quotes from his autobiography, The Long Walk to Freedom.
Nelson Mandela, better known as 'Madiba' and 'Tata' amongst his South African supporters, was born July 18 1918 as Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela to the Thembu royal family. He died last year on December 5 after suffering from pulmonary infection - he was 95 years old then. Mandela, who was also a boxer in his younger days, first became a part of the ANC (African National Congress) and rose to prominence during the ANC's Defiance Campaign in 1952. He started his law practice in 1949, and was majorly involved in helping set free those members of the ANC convicted by the state.
Mandela was unsuccessfully persecuted by the state up until the time he co-founded the armed wing of the ANC - Umkhonto we Sizwe (Spear of the Nation). He was arrested for a sabotage campaign against the apartheid government in 1962 - then convicted, tried and sentenced to life imprisonment.
