    Google Doodle celebrates Nargis' 86th birthday

    Google celebrated Bollywood's queen actor Nargis' 86th birthday with a doodle of the actor on Monday. The actor known for her classic roles in films such as Mother India, Awara among other Hindi blockbusters.

    Her role in Mother India won her critical acclaim and the film was India's first submission to the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Film category in 1958. She was also the first film actress to be accorded with the Padma Shri title by the Government of India. Nargis was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 1980. However, she was diagnosed with cancer and died during her tenure.

    The award for best feature film on national intergation in the National Awards is titled the 'Nargis Dutt Award' in her honour. Nargis married co-star Sunil Dutt and is the mother of actor Sanjay Dutt, MP Priya Dutt and Namrata Dutt.

    Google doodle celebrates Mary Anning's 215th Birth Anniversary

    Internet giant Google on Wednesday celebrated the 215th anniversary of the birth of British palaeontologist Mary Anning with a special doodle.

    The Google homepage shows Mary Anning hunting for fossils with the fossilized remains of the animals making up Google's letters.

    Anning is best known for her work collecting fossils from the Jurassic period near her home in Lyme Regis Dorset.

    Born on May 21st 1799, Anning contributed to fundamental changes that occurred during her lifetime in scientific thinking about prehistoric life and the history of the Earth. Her first discovery was a skull, when she was just twelve, along with her brother Joseph.

    Despite her popularity in Britain, Europe and America, Mary Anning couldn't make it to the Geological Society of London on account of her gender.
    Anning died of cancer, aged 47, on 9th March 1847.

    Today's Google Doodle is a dedication to Hawaiian-American competition swimmer, Duke Kahanamoku. He was a five-time Olympic medalist in swimming.

    He was also an actor, lawman, beach volleyball player, and businessman credited with spreading the sport of surfing.

    Kahanamoku had qualified for the US Olympic swimming team in 1912. At the Summer Olympics in Stockholm that year, he won a gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle, and a silver medal in the men's 4x200-meter freestyle relay.

    He finished the 100 meters with a silver medal during the 1924 Olympics in Paris. At age 34, this was Kahanamoku's last Olympic medal. He also was an alternate for the US water polo team at the 1932 Summer Olympics.

    Between Olympic competitions, and after retiring from the Olympics, Kahanamoku traveled internationally to give swimming exhibitions. It was during this period that he popularized the sport of surfing, previously known only in Hawaii, by incorporating surfing exhibitions into these visits as well.

    While living in Newport Beach, California on June 14, 1925, Kahanamoku had rescued eight men from a fishing vessel that had capsized in heavy surf while attempting to enter the city's harbor.

    Kahanamoku's name is also used by Duke's Canoe Club & Barefoot Bar, a beachfront bar and restaurant in the Outrigger Waikiki On The Beach Hotel. There is a chain of restaurants named
