Real-life couple Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell give their relationship some gas in Hit and Run, a surprisingly romantic car-chase movie written and directed by its male lead. Not only does Shepard do his own stunt-driving (which there's quite a bit of, since his character is a former getaway driver), but he also gets vulnerable in the scenes where he fights with his fiancée, which have the feel of authenticity. Shepard's character — who calls himself Charlie Bronson — leaves witness protection to give his girl a ride to a job interview, but the reason for his being in WitSec in the first place catches up with them along the way, in the form of Bradley Cooper. The plot revolves around former getaway driver Charlie Bronson (Dax Shepard), who busts out of the Witness Protection Program to drive his girlfriend (Kristen Bell) to Los Angeles so she can land her dream job. Their road trip becomes increasingly complicated and dangerous when they are chased by the feds (led by Tom Arnold) and later Charlie's former gang of criminals (led by Bradley Cooper). Also, according to writer/director/actor Shepard, you'll miss out on some bona fide genre-breaking if you don't go see it.
'I don't say this in a bragging way, but it is definitely a genre-breaker,' Shepard told MTV News. 'It's got a lot of different things. It's really, really, really funny, and there are sweet car jumps in it, and then ultimately there's this really nice love story happening between Kristen and I,' he explained.
'There's a lot of real moments between us that we're letting people sort of see into,' added Shepard's co-star and real-life fiancée Kristen Bell. Kristen Bell and her fiance Dax Shepard got a chance to work together recently on Shepard's film 'Hit & Run' and not only did the couple enjoy the experience of being together on set every day, Bell also admitted she found Shepard to be cute as the film's director.
The couple hit the red carpet premiere of the film earlier this month and got cozy with each other during interviews. The two admitted they even gross themselves out with how loving they can be.
'We get that way sometimes. We're in public just nuzzling up and then we're like eww,' Bell told OnTheRedCarpet.com.
The couple, who became engaged in 2010 and have been dating for five years, star in 'Hit & Run' as a couple on the run. Shepard plays a former getaway driver named Charlie Bronson who jeopardizes his Witness Protection Plan identity in order to help his girlfriend (Bell) get to Los Angeles. A U.S. Marshal and Charlie's former gang chase them on the road.
While the two noted there is 'geriatric nudity' in the movie, Bell said she adored Shepard as a director.
