ദീർഘദൂര തീവണ്ടികളിൽ സ്ത്രീകൾക്ക് ഏർപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്ന പ്രത്യേക കോച്ചുകൾ റെയിൽവേ നിർത്തലാക്കുന്നു. പകരം ജനറൽകോച്ചുകളിലെ നിശ്ചിത സീറ്റുകൾ സ്ത്രീകൾക്കായി മാറ്റിവയ്ക്കും. ബസുകളിലെ സീറ്റ് സംവരണത്തിന്റെ മാതൃകയിൽ സ്ത്രീകളുടെ സീറ്റുകൾ തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ സ്റ്റിക്കർ പതിക്കും. തിരുവനന്തപുരം-ചെന്നെ മെയിൽ, കൊച്ചുവേളി-ബെംഗളൂരൂ എന്നീ തീവണ്ടികളിലാണ് ആദ്യഘട്ടത്തിൽ ഈ ക്രമീകരണം നടപ്പാക്കിയത്. ഈ രണ്ട് തീവണ്ടികളിലും നിലവിലുള്ള മൂന്ന് ജനറൽ കമ്പാർട്ട്‌മെന്റുകളിലൊന്നിൽ ഒന്നുമുതൽ 30 വരെയുള്ള സീറ്റുകൾ സ്ത്രീകൾക്കുവേണ്ടി മാറ്റി. മറ്റു തീവണ്ടികളിലേക്കും ഇത് വ്യാപിപ്പിച്ചേക്കും. സ്ത്രീകള്‍ക്ക് സീറ്റുകള്‍ ഒഴിഞ്ഞു കൊടുക്കാത്ത പുരുഷന്മാര്‍ക്ക് പിഴ ചുമത്തും. സുരക്ഷിതത്വത്തിനുവേണ്ടിയാണ് സ്ത്രീകൾക്ക് പ്രത്യേകം കോച്ചുകൾ ഏർപ്പെടുത്താൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചത്. കോച്ചുക്ഷാമമാണ് സീറ്റ് സംവരണ രീതിയിലേക്ക് എത്താൻ റെയിൽവേയെ പ്രേരിപ്പിച്ചത്. പുത്തൻതലമുറ എൽ.എച്ച്.ബി കോച്ചുകൾ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന തീവണ്ടികളിലാണ് സ്ത്രീസംവരണ കോച്ചുകൾ ഇല്ലാതായത്. സ്ത്രീകൾക്കുമാത്രമായി പ്രത്യേക കോച്ച് ഏർപ്പെടുത്തുക പ്രായോഗികമല്ലെന്നും പകരം സ്ത്രീകളുടെ സുരക്ഷയ്ക്ക് വേണ്ടനടപടി സ്വീകരിക്കുമെന്നും റെയിൽവേ അധികൃതർ അറിയിച്ചിടുണ്ട്
