Odisha assembly election to be held in 4 phases starting April 11, counting on May 23
Odisha has 147 assembly constituencies that will go to polls in four phases starting April 11 and will be held along with the Lok Sabha elections.
Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ruled Odisha will be conducted between April 11 and April 29, the Election Commission announced on Sunday in New Delhi.

Counting of votes for the Odisha assembly elections will also be held on May 23 along with the Lok Sabha elections.
The term for Odisha Assembly ends on June 11.
Odisha’s last assembly elections were held in April 2014 when Naveen Patnaik’s BJD won the polls.
Results for the Odisha assembly election were also declared on May 16, 2014 along with the Lok Sabha election results.
In the 2014 state elections, BJD formed the government with a majority of 117 seats while Congress was in the Opposition after it won 16 seats.
Naveen Patnaik formed the government after winning 43 per cent of the votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had won 10 seats as compared to its previous tally of 6 seats in the state elections before 2014..

Bharat Bandh: Rail services hit due to blockade, roads deserted in Odisha
The two-day nationwide strike called by central trade unions to protest the Centre's alleged anti-worker policies disrupted rail and road traffic in Odisha on Tuesday.
Train services were hit as trade union activists staged rail roko on the first day of the 48-hour strike at many places including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Balasore, Jaleswar, Bhadrak, Sambalpur, Berhampur and Paradip, police said.
Over a dozen trains were delayed due to blockade of railway tracks by strike supporters, leaving a large number of passengers stranded at many places, they said.
Roads wore a deserted look with vehicles, including government and private buses refraining from playing, while a large number of passengers were seen stranded in bus stands in many places.
In state capital Bhubaneswar, trade union activists staged picketing and and road blockade by burning tyres at several places and busy thoroughfares. They held a sit-in at Master Canteen Square.

Odisha government issued alerts to the administrative officials of the coastal districts today after the depression over Bay of Bengal intensified into a cyclonic storm.
“As per the latest prediction of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the deep depression over Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclone which will cross Gopalpur coast tonight,” said Odisha Chief Secretary, Aditya Prasad Padhi.
Padhi further informed that districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Nayagarh and Khurda are likely to experience maximum wind speed of 60 to 70 km/hr gusting up to a speed of 80 km/hr.
“We are alert and each concerned department including electricity has been put on alert and the situation is being closely monitored,” Padhi added.
Official sources said the wind speed in these districts is likely to increase from 5 PM today. As the sea condition is likely to remain rough, fishermen in coastal districts have been warned not to venture into the sea in the next 24 hours.

PM Modi lays foundation stone for Rs 13,000 crore Talcher fertiliser project
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday said the Rs 13,000 crore-project to revive the Talcher fertiliser plant will for the first time see coal being converted into gas for use as feedstock and for producing neem-coated urea.
