ഞായറാഴ്ചകളില്‍ അവധി നല്‍കിയില്ല: ജീവനക്കാരിക്ക്150 കോടിരൂപ നഷ്ടപരിഹാരം നൽകാൻ കോടതി ഉത്തരവിട്ടു.ഞായറാഴ്ചകളില്‍ അവധിനല്‍കാതെ പണിയെടുപ്പിച്ചതിന് ജീവനക്കാരിക്ക് വിർജീനിയയിലെ ആഡംബര ഹോട്ടലായ ഹിൽട്ടൺ 2.15 കോടി ഡോളര്‍ (ഏകദേശം 150 കോടി രൂപ) നഷ്ടപരിഹാരം നല്‍കണമെന്ന് കോടതി. മതപരമായ അവകാശങ്ങള്‍ ലംഘിച്ചുവെന്ന് ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി ആഡംബര ഹോട്ടലിലെ ജീവനക്കാരിയായിരുന്ന 60 വയസുകാരി മേരി ജീന്‍ പിയറി (60) നല്‍കിയ പരാതിയിലാണ് മയാമികോടതിയുടെ വിധി.10 വര്‍ഷത്തോളം ഹോട്ടലിലെ അടുക്കളയില്‍ പാത്രങ്ങള്‍ വൃത്തിയാക്കുന്ന തൊഴിലാളിയായിരുന്നു മേരി. 2006ലാണ് ഇവര്‍ ജോലിയില്‍ചേര്‍ന്നത്. വിശ്വാസിയായ ഇവർക്ക് ഞായറാഴ്ചകളില്‍ അവധിവേണമെന്ന് ജോലിയില്‍ പ്രവേശിക്കുമ്ബോള്‍തന്നെ മേരി ഹോട്ടലധികൃതരെ അറിയിച്ചിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ പിന്നീട് ഹോട്ടൽ അധികൃതർ വാക്കു പാലിച്ചില്ല . ഹെയ്തിയില്‍നിന്നുള്ള കുടിയേറ്റക്കാരിയായിരുന്നു മേരി.
പാവങ്ങളെ സഹായിക്കുന്നതിനായി രൂപവത്കരിച്ച സോള്‍ജ്യേഴ്‌സ് ഓഫ് ക്രൈസ്റ്റ് ചര്‍ച്ചിലെ അംഗമായിരുന്നു.ആദ്യത്തെ വര്‍ഷങ്ങളില്‍ ഞായറാഴ്ചകളില്‍ അവധിയെടുക്കാന്‍ മേരിയെ അനുവദിച്ചിരുന്നു. 2015 മുതല്‍ അവധിനല്‍കാന്‍ മേലുദ്യോഗസ്ഥര്‍ വിസമ്മതിച്ചു. മറ്റുജീവനക്കാരുമായി സഹകരിച്ച്‌ ജോലിസമയം പരസ്പരം വെച്ചുമാറി കുറച്ചുകാലം മുന്നോട്ടുപോയെങ്കിലും 2016 മാര്‍ച്ചില്‍ കമ്ബനി മേരിയെ പിരിച്ചുവിട്ടു.ഒരു ദശാബ്ദത്തോളം പിയറി ഹിൽട്ടൺ ഹോട്ടലുകളിൽ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിരുന്നുവെങ്കിലും പള്ളിക്ക് വേണ്ടി ആറ് ഞായറാഴ്ച ജോലി നഷ്ടപ്പെടുത്തിയതോടെ കമ്പനി ഇവരെ കമ്പനിയിൽ നിന്നും പിരിച്ചുവിടുകയായിരുന്നു .അപമര്യാദയായി പെരുമാറി, അകാരണമായി അവധിയെടുത്തു, ജോലിയില്‍ വീഴ്ചവരുത്തി എന്നീ കുറ്റങ്ങളാരോപിച്ചായിരുന്നു നടപടി.ഇതിനെതിരേ ഹോട്ടല്‍ ഉടമസ്ഥരായ പാര്‍ക്ക് ഹോട്ടല്‍സ് ആന്‍ഡ് റിസോര്‍ട്ട് ഓഫ് ടൈസന്‍സിനെ പ്രതിചേര്‍ത്ത് മേരി കോടതിയെ സമീപിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു .നിറം,വംശം, മതം, ദേശീയത, ലിംഗം എന്നിവയുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ തൊഴിലിടങ്ങളിലെ വിവേചനം തടയുന്ന 1964ലെ സിവില്‍ അവകാശനിയമം ഹോട്ടല്‍ ലംഘിച്ചു എന്നായിരുന്നു മേരിയുടെ പരാതി. 36,000 ഡോ
