- क्रांतिकारी नौजवान आज़ादी पाने के लिए हिंसा पर उतारू थे...वहीं महात्मा गांधी ने अहिंसा को चुना..महात्मा गांधी की आंदोलन का रास्ता एकदम साफ था......1920 से लेकर 1922 के बीच असहयोग आंदोलन तेज़ हो गया था...गांधी जी के आह्वान का असर था कि सिर्फ 1 महिने में 90 हज़ार छात्रों ने सारे स्कूल और कॉलेजो को छोड़ दिया... इसी बीच आदोलन में नया मोड़ आ गया...5 फरवरी 1922 को चौरीचौरा में कंग्रेस के नेताओं ने जूलुस का आयोजन किया था...इस दौरान पुलिस और आंदोलनकारियों के बीच झड़प हुई, जिसके बाद उग्र भीड़ ने थाने में लगा दी... इस घटना में 22 पुलिसकर्मी मारे गए...इस घटना से दुखी हो कर गांधी जी ने 12 फरवरी 1922 को असहयोग आंदोलन समाप्त करने की घोषणा कर दी...

वीओ-1942 तक इंतजार के बाद देशवासियों के सब्र का बांध टूट चुका था इसी साल अग्रेज़ो को भारत छोड़ने के लिए आंदोलन शुरू किया गया..इस दौरान गांधी जी ने करो या मरो का नारा दिया...9 अगस्त 1942 को कांग्रेस के बड़े नेताओं को गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया...1945 में शिमला समझौते से साथ आंदोलन समाप्त हो गया...दूसरे विश्व युद्ध के बाद मान लिया गया था कि भारत की सत्ता पुराने ढंग से नहीं चलाई जा सकती...उधर मोहम्मद अली जिन्ना ने 1936 में भारत आकर मुस्लिम लीग को ज़िदा करने में जुट गए...उनका मानना था कि देश में मुस्लिमों को नज़र अंदाज़ किया जा रहा है...जिन्ना ने अलग मुस्लिम राज्य की मांग शुरू कर दी..अंग्रेज़ो के बोए गए भय की फसल 1946 में कलकत्ता में काटी गई..5 दिनों के दंगे में 5 हज़ार लोगों की जान चली गई...
एंकर- सांप्रदायिकता का विष इस कदर हावी हो चुका था कि कांग्रेस ने भारत विभाजन को स्वीकार कर लिया...लेकिन जिनके हाथों में देश की सत्ता थी वे अब असहाय हो चुके थे.

Independence Day, observed annually on 15 August, is a National Holiday in India commemorating the nation's independence from Kingdom of Great Britain [Commonly known as United Kingdom] on 15 August 1947. India attained independence following an Independence Movement noted for largely nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience led by the Indian National Congress (INC).[1] Independence coincided with the partition of India, in which the British Indian Empire was divided along religious lines into the Dominions of India and Pakistan; the partition was accompanied by violent riots and mass casualties, and the displacement of nearly 15 million people due to sectarian violence.
On 15 August 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru, who had become the first Prime Minister of India that day, raised the Indian national flag above the Lahore Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi. On each subsequent Independence Day, the Prime Minister has raised the flag and given a speech.
