A man has unsuccessfully tried to grab the Olympic torch from a runner taking the flame from the town of Maidstone to Redhill, near London. BBC footage broadcast live to the Web showed the unidentified man launching from the crowd in the English riverside town of Gravesend.
The torchbearer ran to safety and the man was packed away by security.
This year's torch relay has not been hit by the human rights protests that bedeviled the Beijing Olympic relay in 2008. But police are still ready to ward off attention-seekers who might try to attack the flame on its 8,000 mile (12,800 kilometer) journey.
The torch is due to arrive in London later Friday, when a Royal Marine will rappel with it from a helicopter to the Tower of London..

Muslim Man Tries to Grab the Olympic Flame From Female Bearer..
A 17-year-old shouted 'Allahu Akbar' - Arabic for 'God is Great' - as he unsuccessfully tried to grab the Olympic torch during a stretch of the flame's route through Maidstone towards Redhill.
Broadcast live on the BBC, the youth lunged from the crowd to try to take the torch from the hands of its bearer Anna Skora, but was swiftly bundled away by officers.
In one video posted to YouTube he can be seen waiting behind a car and as Ms Skora gets closer he lunges towards the torch.
Ms Skora was about to hand over the torch to Graham White, a Surrey charity worker, when the teenager burst out of the crowd and tried to grab it.
He managed to get through the line of police officers escorting the torch as it headed through the town.
One of the officers at the back of the group swiftly grabbed hold of Ms Skora and the torch, guiding them to the opposite side of the road.
Four or five of the other torch guards then bundled the man to the side of the road where he was then arrested.
Ms Skora managed to keep the torch upright throughout the ordeal and she continued to smile as she completed her stretch of the Olympic flame relay.
The incident happened as the torch was being taken into Gravesend on Friday morning.

British police arrested a 17-year-old man yesterday after he tried to grab the Olympic torch on the day that it was due to make a dramatic arrival in London.
The incident happened as the torch was in Gravesend, a town on south bank of the River Thames east of London, said a spokeswoman for police in the county of Kent. “We have arrested a 17-year-old man following an incident as the Olympic torch passed through Gravesend,” the Kent Police spokeswoman said. “At around 9:55 am (0855 GMT) a man apparently attempted to take the Olympic torch from a torchbearer,” the spokeswoman said.
“The man, who is from Gravesend, was arrested within seconds and he is now in custody of Kent Police.” Security has been tight around the torch as it snaked its way on 8,000-mile relay around Britain, during which it also visited the Republic of Ireland. Later a Royal Marine commando was to abseil from a helicopter with the torch, which will spend the night in the Tower of London, where the sovereign’s ceremonial jewels are kept.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will launch the historic torch relay for the 44th Chess Olympiad on 19th June at 5 PM at Indira Gandhi Stadium, New Delhi. He will also address the gathering on the occasion.
This year, for the very first time, the International Chess Body, FIDE, has instituted the Chess Olympiad Torch that is part of Olympic tradition, but was never done in the Chess Olympiad. India will be the first-ever country to have the Chess Olympiad Torch Relay. Notably, taking the Indian roots of Chess to a greater height, this tradition of Torch Relay for the Chess Olympiad will henceforth always begin in India and travel across all continents before reaching the host country.
FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich will hand over the torch to Prime Minister, who in turn will hand it over to Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand. This torch will then be taken to 75 cities in a span of 40 days before the final culmination at Mahabalipuram near Chennai. At every location, chess grandmasters of the state will receive the torch.
The 44th Chess Olympiad will be held in Chennai from July 28 to August 10, 2022. The prestigious competition, which has been organised since 1927, is being hosted in India for the first time and in Asia after 30 years. With 189 countries participating, this will be the largest participation in any Chess Olympiad
