Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik blames Centre neglect
NABARANGPUR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the Centre for its apathetic attitude towards the backward areas of the State and urged the people to vote for the BJD candidates for the parliamentary as well as Assembly constituencies for further development of the region.
Questioning the reason behind the discontinuation of fund for the KBK region, the Chief Minister alleged that leaders of the national parties never visited the tribal-dominated districts during the last five years, but are now touring the area only because of the elections.
Naveen raised the issue while addressing an election meeting here hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged at Rourkela and Sonepur rallies that the Congress and BJD want to keep poverty alive only for doing politics. Naveen urged the people to ask the visiting BJP leaders to explain why they stopped funding the KBK..

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched ‘Sunetra’ scheme on Tuesday in order to provide free eye care to all the people of the state.
Patnaik launched the eye care scheme during the state’s flagship ‘Ama Gaon Ama Bikash’ programme at the State Secretariat with an aim to achieve the target of universal eye health care by 2023.
“All the people of Odisha are included in this scheme. Irrespective of age, all will benefit from the scheme,” said Health Secretary Pramod Meherda while speaking to the newsmen.

Odisha Congress pledges farm loan waiver
OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik attacked the government for not considering much for farmers and stated that the Congress will waive farm loans as soon as possible if in power.
While Congress on Thursday promised to waive off farm loans if voted to power and within five hours of forming Government in Odisha, the ruling BJD said it is not competing with other States in writing off agriculture loans.
Stating that BJD’s proposed Parliament gherao on January 8 demanding hike in minimum support price (MSP) is meant to mislead people of Odisha ahead of elections, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik said the Naveen Patnaik Government has forgotten about farmers in the last 18 years of its tenure.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera said different political parties are promising farm loan waiver in order to compete with each other ahead of the elections but the State government is considering all aspects before moving ahead in this regard.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik to contest from Hinjili, Bijepur assembly seats
Odisha Headlines-:
1.The chief minister said he will contest the state polls from Hinjili in Ganjam district and Bijepur in west Odisha's Bargarh district.
2.Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik will contest the Odisha assembly polls from two seats, Bijepur and his home turf Hinjili. Patnaik Monday announced the first list of BJD candidates for nine of the 21 Lok Sabha and 54 of the 147 assembly seats in the state.
The chief minister said he will contest the state polls from Hinjili in Ganjam district and Bijepur in west Odisha's Bargarh district.
3.Simultaneous polling will be held in Odisha for the 21 Lok Sabha seats and the 147 assembly constituencies in four phases on April 11, 18, 23 and 29.
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) chief's announcement came a day after he had hinted at contesting the upcoming assembly election also from a constituency in west Odisha.

'The people of Odisha want to know who is the BJP's chief ministerial candidate, from where s/he is contesting the elections,' Patnaik said, addressing an election meeting at Daspalla under Kandhamal Lok Sabha constituency, which is going to polls in the second phase on 18 April.
Alleging that the BJP was afraid of announcing the name of its leader in Odisha, he also took a dig at the saffron party's 'double engine' slogan.
Patnaik was referring to BJP leaders' frequent call to the people of Odisha to ensure a 'double engine' government (the government in Odisha as well as in Delhi) for better development of the state.
'That Delhi engine did not come to the state when people were encountering calamities like cyclone and floods.
Though the Delhi engine came after calamities, it went to Andhra Pradesh and not to Odisha,'
