ഒരു കാലത്ത് യൂറോപ്പിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ തരംഗങ്ങളില്‍ ഒന്നായിരുന്നു ഗാര്‍ഫീല്‍ഡ് ഫോണുകള്‍. ഒരു പൂച്ചയുടെ രൂപത്തിലുള്ള ഈ ഫോണുകള്‍ 1970 കളുടെ അവസാനത്തിലും 1980 കളിലും വീടുകളിലെ അവിഭാജ്യഘടകമായിരുന്നു. മൊബൈല്‍ ഫോണുകളുടെ വരവോടെയാണ് ഇവയുടെ മാര്‍ക്കറ്റ് ഇടിഞ്ഞത്. പക്ഷെ ഇപ്പോഴും ഇ ബേ പോലുള്ള വെബ്സൈറ്റുകളില്‍ ഉപയോഗിച്ച ഈ ഫോണുകള്‍ക്ക് തരക്കേടില്ലാത്ത വില ലഭിക്കും. ഓറഞ്ച് നിറത്തിലുള്ള വലുപ്പമേറിയ ഈ ഫോണുകള്‍ പക്ഷേ കഴിഞ്ഞ മൂന്ന് പതിറ്റാണ്ടായി പശ്ചിമ ഫ്രാന്‍സിലെ ബ്രിട്ട്നിയില്‍ സൃഷ്ടിക്കുന്ന മലിനീകരണ പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ ചെറുതല്ല. മുഴുവനായും അല്ലാതെയും ഈ പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് ഫോണുകൾ പല ബീച്ചുകളിലായി വന്നടിയാറുണ്ട്. ഈ ഫോണുകള്‍ ഇപ്പോഴും എല്ലാവര്‍ക്കും പ്രിയപ്പെട്ടതാണെങ്കിലും ഇവ നടത്തുന്ന ബീച്ച് മലിനീകരണം നിരവധി പേരെ അലട്ടുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. പക്ഷേ സ്ഥിരമായി ഈ ഫോണുകളുടെ ഭാഗങ്ങള്‍ ബ്രിട്ട്നിയിലെ ബീച്ചുകളിലേക്കെത്താനുള്ള കാരണം ഇതുവരെ കണ്ടെത്താനാകാത്ത രഹസ്യമായിരുന്നു. പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് മലിനീകരണം യൂറോപ്പിനു ചുറ്റുമുള്ള സമുദ്രമേഖലയില്‍ വ്യാപകമാണ്. ഇതിനെതിരായ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ സജീവമായി പുരോഗമിക്കുന്നതിനിടെയാണ് ബ്രിട്ട്നിയിലെ ഈ ഗാര്‍ഫീല്‍ഡ് മലിനീകരണത്തിന് പിന്നിലുള്ള കാരണത്തെ കുറിച്ച അന്വേഷണം നടന്നത് . എന്നാൽ പതിറ്റാണ്ടുകളുടെ കാത്തിരിപ്പിനു ശേഷം ഇപ്പോള്‍ പരിസ്ഥിതി പ്രവര്‍ത്തകര്‍ ഈ സമസ്യയ്ക്കു പരിഹാരം കണ്ടെത്തിയിരിക്കുകയാണ്. അതായത് ദിവസേനയെന്നവണ്ണം ഈ പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് ഫോണുകള്‍ തീരത്തേക്കെത്തുന്ന സ്രോതസ്സ് ഇവര്‍ കണ്ടെത്തി. ബ്രിട്ട്നിയിലെ തന്നെ റിനെ മോര്വാന് എന്ന വ്യക്തിയോടും സഹോദരന്‍മാരോടുമാണ് ഇക്കാര്യത്തില്‍ പരിസ്ഥിതി പ്രവര്‍ത്തകര്‍ കടപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്.1980 കളില്‍ മോര്വാന് 19-20 വയസ്സുള്ളപ്പോള്‍ തീരപ്രദേശത്തു ശക്തമായ ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റ് വീശിയിരുന്നു. ഈ ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റില്‍ നിരവധി കണ്ടെയ്നറുകളുമായി വന്ന ഒരു കപ്പല്‍ മുങ്ങിയിരുന്നു. ഈ കപ്പലിലെ കണ്ടെയ്നറുകളില്‍ നിറയെ ഗാര്‍ഫീല്‍ഡ് ഫോണുകളായിരുന്നു. ഇതില്‍ ചില കണ്ടെയ്നറുകളില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള ഫോണുകൾ തിരയില്‍ പെട്ട് വില്‍റ്റാന്‍സോ തീരമേഖലയിലുള്ള ഒരു ഗുഹയില്‍ കുടുങ്ങി കിടക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. ചെറുപ്പത്തില്‍ തന്നെ മോര്‍വാനും സഹോദരന്‍മാരും ഈ ഗുഹയിലേക്കു നടത്തിയ യാത്രയില്‍ ഈ

യാത്രക്കാരുടെ സുരക്ഷ കണക്കിലെടുത്ത് രാജ്യത്തെ എല്ലാ തീവണ്ടികളിലും റെയില്‍വെ സ്റ്റേഷനുകളിലും സിസിടിവി നിരീക്ഷണം ഏര്‍പ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.3000 കോടിരൂപ 2017 18 ലെ കേന്ദ്ര ബജറ്റില്‍ ഇതിനുവേണ്ടി വകയിരുത്തുമെന്ന് വാര്‍ത്താ ഏജന്‍സി റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടു ചെയ്തു. 11,000 തീവണ്ടികളിലും 8,500 സ്റ്റേഷനുകളിലും പുതുതായി ക്യാമറകള്‍ സ്ഥാപിക്കാനാണ് ഒരുങ്ങുന്നത്. ഓരോ കോച്ചിലും എട്ടു ക്യാമറകള്‍ വീതമാണു സ്ഥാപിക്കുക. വാതിലുകളും ഇടനാഴിയും അടക്കം നിരീക്ഷത്തിലാകും. 395 സ്റ്റേഷനിലും 50 ട്രെയിനിലും മാത്രമാണു ഇപ്പോള്‍ സിസിടിവി നിരീക്ഷണമുള്ളത്. ഇതു വര്‍ധിപ്പിക്കുകയാണു സര്‍ക്കാരിന്റെ ലക്ഷ്യം.
