Vulture reports that Murphy, The Shield creator Shawn Ryan, and Sony Pictures Television will be joining forces to bring the fish-out-of-water cop Axel Foley — and/or his son and/or a cop buddy — to the small screen.
In addition to acting as the show’s executive producer, Murphy will apparently also act as an actor on the pilot and make special appearances on the show. Who is going to be cast as the Son of Beverly Hills Cop and his buddy remain a mystery.

The 51-year-old actor is hoping to reprise his role of the Detroit detective Axel Foley in a television adaptation of the action-comedy film franchise, according to Deadline. He and Shawn Ryan, creator of the show 'The Shield' and the new ABC series 'Last Resort,' have already pitched the project to major networks such as ABC and FOX and want to serve as executive producers, the website said.
The parties have not confirmed the news. Murphy starred in three 'Beverly Hills Cop' action films, the last of which was released in 1994. The second was directed by 'Top Gun' director Tony Scott, who died early this month. The movies made a total of $735 million.
Deadline says the new TV project centers on Foley's son, who 'moves to Beverly Hills to escape the shadow of his legendary dad.' Murphy is set to reprise his old role with 'occasional recurring guest appearances.'
If the project is picked up, it would mark Murphy's television acting return since he left 'Saturday Night Live' in 1984 to begin what has become a successful movie career. He went on to star in one of the most iconic comedy films of all time, 'Coming To America,' with Arsenio Hall, and also appeared in film franchises such as 'Doctor Dolittle' and 'The Nutty Professor' and also starred in 'Dreamgirls.'

A report was originally released by the attention seeking website claiming that Murphy had been killed in a snowboarding accident in Switzerland. The fake claim also stated that he had lost control of his board and gone crashing into a tree, suffering critical injuries.
The 'news' report stated: 'The actor & novice snowboarder was vacationing at the Zermatt ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland with family and friends. Witnesses indicate that Eddie Murphy lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed.'
It further added that Murphy was 'air lifted by ski patrol teams to a local hospital, however, it is believed that the actor died instantly from the impact of the crash. The actor was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played any part in his death.'
Fans immediately took to social media sites to discuss the death, with many not initially realizing whether it was true or not.
However, the report was proven to be false and a disclaimer was in fact published on the website saying the death was a hoax and that it was simply written for 'entertainment.'
