Shot putter Om Prakash Singh would kick off India's campaign at the showpiece Olympic Stadium and the youngster has been in high spirits after having trained at Szombathely in Hungary for two years.
He is among those Indians who broke the national record in the build-up to the Games, with an effort of 20.69m in May. He is aiming to at least qualify for the final round in his debut Olympics.
'I can be the dark horse as I am hurling the shot put beyond 21m during training. My aim is to first qualify for the final round and then I can think of a medal. Who knows, it depends on the performance on that day and I can grab a medal. If not, I want to finish in top six,' he said..

London: Google has doodled its eighth London Olympics doodle, first ever on shot put.
Both men and women are participating in the event that will be held at the Olympic Stadium.
The dates for the men’s and women’s events are August 3 and 6 respectively.
The term shot put has come from “putting” (throwing in a pushing motion) a heavy metal ball—the shot—as far as possible.
The London 2012 shot put shows a shot putter ready for his throw. The Google logo appears in the horizon with two men standing in front of ‘l’ of the Google logo.
The world record in men’s shot put is 23.12 metres and 22.63 metres in women’s shot put.
In Olympics, records are at 22.47 for men and 22.41 for women.

New Delhi: Its doodle time again! Google has dedicated the day’s doodle to London 2012 Shot Put on Friday. Ever since the London 2012 Olympics have started, Google has dedicated each day with a new doodle to different sporting events.
Yesterday, Google welcomed its users with London 2012 Table Tennis doodle on the homepage on the sixth day of the sporting extravaganza.
On Wednesday, doodle featured a woman hockey player dribbling the hockey ball in a green turf with the Google logo in the background.
Google had celebrated London 2012 artistic gymnastics men's rings on Tuesday with the doodle depicting a male gymnast displaying his craft on rings.
On Monday, Google honoured London 2012 Fencing with the doodle showing two fencers - one in attack mode and the other player in defense mode - with the letter ‘L’ from the Google’s logo shown as one of the bladed weapons being used by the latter.
On Sunday, the doodle was dedicated for the London 2012 diving which showed a female diver taking position to take a back-flip into the pool with Google’s logo forming inside the pool.
On Saturday, Google doodle represented the London 2012 archery. The doodle depicted a girl archer aiming on a green field, reminiscent of the historic Lord’s cricket ground where the archery events of the Summer Games are being held.

London 2012 shot put is the eighth London Olympics doodle, carrying on the tradition of a Google doodle every day of the Olympics.
The Google doodle depicts a muscular male athlete getting ready to throw a shot put, a heavy metal ball. In open competitions the men's shot weighs 7.260 kilograms, and the women's shot weighs 4 kilograms.
Last Friday, the Google doodle had celebrated the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. The doodle 5 athletes playing different Olympic sports. On Saturday, the Google doodle had celebrated the sport of archery, with a female archer getting ready to aim for bull's eye.
