गोधरा कांड के 28 आरोपियों को आज गांधीनगर न्यायालय ने बरी कर दिया है। इन लोगों को सबूतों के अभाव में बरी किया गया है। आरोपियों पर हिंसा भड़काने और सार्वजनिक संपत्तियों को नुकसान पहुंचाने का आरोप था। जिन लोगों को अदालत ने बरी किया है उसमें कलोल नागरिक सहकारी बैंक के अध्यक्ष गोविंद पटेल भी शामिल हैं। सभी आरोपी पहले ही लंबे समय से जमानत पर हैं। गोधरा रेलवे स्टेशन पर साबरमती एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन में आग लगाए जाने की घटना के एक दिन बाद 28 फरवरी 2002 को गांधीनगर जिले के कलोल तालुका के पलियाड गांव में आगजनी, दंगा और अल्पसंख्यक समुदाय की संपत्ति को क्षति पहुंचाने का इन 28 लोगों पर आरोप था। संपत्ति को क्षति पहुंचाने के अलावा उस गांव के तकरीबन 250 लोगों की उग्र भीड़ पर हमले के दौरान पलियाड में एक दरगाह के कुछ हिस्से को भी क्षति पहुंचाने का आरोप था। उस उग्र भीड़ में पुलिस की प्राथमिकी में नामजद 28 आरोपी भी शामिल थे। गत 31 जनवरी को फैसला सुनाते हुए कलोल के अतिरिक्त जिला न्यायाधीश बी डी पटेल ने गौर किया कि आरोपियों के खिलाफ पर्याप्त सबूत उपलब्ध नहीं है
