As Google continues to celebrate the Summer Olympics with its doodles, the theme of Sunday - the tenth day of the sporting extravaganza - is London 2012 Synchronised Swimming.
The doodle depicts a team of female synchronised swimmers performing a routine. The Women's Duet events will begin from today till the 7th of August and Women's Team events will be held on the 9th & 10th of August.

Synchronised swimming is one of the two Olympic sports that is exclusive to women (rhythmic gymnastics is the other) and a team of eight syncronised swimmers get together for a circular formation to replace the first 'O' of the Google logo floating in a pool.
Interestingly, synchronised swimming began as a sport for men in the 19th century and made its Olympic debut in Los Angeles 1984. But it was because of an Australian swimmer Annette Kellerman who toured the United States performing water acrobatics which were very popular. The interest in her performance triggered the birth of the sport.
London 2012 synchronised swimming doodle is the tenth Google doodle during the ongoing Olympic Games and only the second on synchronised swimming in the history of Google doodles. The first synchronised swimming doodle was posted on August 24, 2004 during the Athens Olympics. Russia has won the most golds in Olympic synchronised swimming followed by USA.
Synchronised swimming is a mix of swimming, dance and gymnastics that is performed to music from underwater speakers. In the Olympics duets or teams of eight swimmers perform short routines to musical accompaniment. Synchronised swimming is considered to be the most glamorous of all the Olympic sports.

Google’s latest Doodle focuses on “O,†shows off synchronized swimming.
Here’s the latest Google Doodle for the London 2012 Olympics, please welcome, the synchronized swimming.
Apparently, the London 2012 synchronized swimming event will start on August 5, London local time. Clicking the Doodle will initiate a search for the event which includes the synchronized swimming’s very own Knowledge graph containing all the helpful information including the event’s brief history.
According to its Wikipedia entry, the event has been contested at the Summer Olympics since the 1984 Games. The current rules allow competition in duet and team events only but in past games, a solo event was also contested.

Here at 3D Car Shows we love to follow Google Doodles. It is almost always interesting to find out that Google picked someone’s birthday that we should know but did not know they played such a big part in the invention, art work or event.
This year with the Google London 2012 Google Doodles, we are almost just as surprised when we look at the sports that Google picks for their Google Logo’s. In most cases it looks like Google is picking the less main stream sports to be honored by having a place on their Google Doodles Showcase.
Inspire of going against the steam and picking less known sports, we admire that Google is giving these sports much needed attention and exposure via there Google Doodle and Homepage. It would actually be interesting to get the stats on how Google influenced participation in these sports in years to come.
Today the 10th Google Doodle is showcasing the “London 2012 Synchronized Swimming†event. This is one of two events that do not have males competing. In some other international events men are allowed to compete in synchronized swimming, however in the Olympics they cannot.
