The mystery of the Japan crop circles has been solved.
Earlier this year a deep sea photographer, Yoji Ookata, was diving off the southern coast of Japan. Ookata has been documenting his explorations of the deep seas for more than 50 years, but during this dive he saw something he had never witnessed before. A circular pattern of rippling sand about 80 feet below sea level and what he estimated to be about 6 feet in diameter was on the ocean floor.
The find stunned him so much that he went off and returned to the same location with a full TV camera crew accompanying him. He hoped to find a reason for the mysterious pattern on the sea bed he had found.
He described to people that he had found a 'mystery circle' and they became known as the Japan Crop Circles, referring to the unusual mysterious circles found in crop fields in various locations across the globe.
With more than 70 percent of the Earth being covered in water, scientists admit there are still millions of mysteries and discoveries to be uncovered in the deep seas. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 95 percent of what exists underwater still has not been seen by human eyes.
It has also been highlighted that NASA has openly admitted that currently mankind has a better map of the surface of Mars than that of the bottom of the oceans..

Earlier this year, off the southern coast of Japan, Yoji Ookata, a deep-sea photographer and diver who has been documenting the deep sea for more than 50 years, saw something he had never observed before. A circular pattern of rippling sand about 80 feet below sea level and 6 feet in diameter was on the ocean floor.
Ookata returned to the same spot with a TV camera crew in tow to capture the discovery and figure out who or what had created its intricate design. Ookata dubbed his new find the “mystery circle” and was shocked to find out that a single puffer fish, no more than a few inches long, had created the circles using just one fin.

Photographer Yoji Ookata was on one of his frequent dives in the Pacific Ocean when he noticed something unusual this year. Imprinted on the ocean floor, 80 feet below sea level, was a circular geometric pattern, about 6.5 feet in diameter, that had been carved into the sand.
Filled with ridges of varying heights, the pattern looked strikingly similar to a crop circle.
In his 50 years as a professional deep-sea photographer, Ookata had never seen anything like it. He photographed his discovery, and dubbed it the “mystery circle.” The next time he returned to the spot, located off the coast of the island of Amami Oshima in southern Japan, he came armed with a television crew.
“Using underwater cameras, the team discovered the artist is a small puffer fish only a few inches in length that swims tirelessly through the day and night to create these vast organic sculptures using the gesture of a single fin,” the blog ThisIsColossal reported.
The puffer fish is a small but poisonous type of fish, prized as a delicacy in Japan.
Female fish are reportedly so attracted to the multilayered ridges sculpted in the sand, that they will seek out the male fish upon discovering his so-called nest. After mating, the couple will then deposit the newly fertilized eggs in the sand at the center of the circle.
Besides being beautiful, the underwater crop circle also serves a highly practical purpose: The carefully carved ri

Yoji Ookata who obtained his scuba license at the age of 21 and has since spent the last 50 years exploring and documenting his discoveries off the coast of Japan. Recently while on a dive near Amami Oshima at the southern tip of the country, Ookata spotted something he had never encountered before: rippling geometric sand patterns nearly six feet in diameter almost 80 feet below sea level. He soon returned with colleagues and a television crew from the nature program NHK to document the origins what he dubbed the 'mystery circle.'
Underwater cameras showed that the artist was a small puffer fish who, using only his flapping fin, tirelessly worked day and night to carve the circular ridges. The unlikely artist -- best known in Japan as a delicacy, albeit a potentially poisonous one -- even takes small shells, cracks them, and lines the inner grooves of his sculpture as if decorating his piece. Further observation revealed that this 'mysterious circle' was not just there to make the ocean floor look pretty. Attracted by the grooves and ridges, female puffer fish would find their way along the dark seabed to the male puffer fish where they would mate and lay eggs in the center of the circle. In fact, the scientists observed that the more ridges the circle contained, the more likely it was that the female would mate with the male. The little sea shells weren't just in vain either. The observers believe that they serve as vital nutrients to the egg
