'കൊല്ലാം; പക്ഷേ തോല്‍പിക്കാനാവില്ല' എന്ന വിപ്ലവകാരികളുടെ എക്കാലത്തെയും ആവേശ മുദ്രാവാക്യം സ്വ ജീവിതത്തില്‍ പ്രാവര്‍ത്തികമാക്കിയ പോരാളിയായിരുന്നു സൈമണ് ബ്രിട്ടോ.എതിരാളികളുടെ കത്തിമുനയിലും തളരാതെ, ഉണര്ന്ന പ്രതിഭയുമായി കേരളത്തെ വിസ്മയിപ്പിച്ച സൈമണ് ബ്രിട്ടോ ഇനിയില്ല. മൂന്നരപ്പതിറ്റാണ്ട് വീല്ചെയറില് ഇരുന്ന് പോരാട്ടം നയിച്ച ബ്രിട്ടോ മരണത്തിന് കീഴടങ്ങി. തൃശൂരിലെ സ്വകാര്യ ആശുപത്രിയില് തിങ്കളാഴ്ച വൈകിട്ടായിരുന്നു അന്ത്യം. 64 വയസ്സായിരുന്നു. സംസ്‌കാരം ബുധനാഴ്ച .തൃശൂര് ദയ ആസ്പത്രിയില് തിങ്കളാഴ്ച വൈകീട്ട് 6.10ന് ഹൃദയാഘാതം മൂലമായിരുന്നു അന്ത്യം.ജനങ്ങളെ പ്രചോദിപ്പിച്ച നേതാവിനെയാണ‌് സൈമൺ ബ്രിട്ടോയുടെ വേർപാടിലൂടെ നഷ‌്ടമായതെന്ന‌് സിപിഐ എം ജനറൽ സെക്രട്ടറി സീതാറാം യെച്ചൂരി അനുസ‌്മരിച്ചു. എസ്എഫ്ഐ കാലംമുതൽ പരിചിതനാണ‌് ബ്രിട്ടോ. ബ്രിട്ടോയ‌്ക്ക‌ുനേരെ കെഎസ്യു നടത്തിയ ക്രൂരമായ ആക്രമണത്തിന്റെ വാർത്തയറിഞ്ഞപ്പോഴുണ്ടായ നടുക്കവും വേദനയും ഇപ്പോഴും ഓർക്കുന്നുണ്ടെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു .എസ്എഫ്ഐ സംസ്ഥാന വൈസ്പ്രസിഡന്റായിരിക്കെയാണ് അക്രമത്തിന് ഇരയായത്.1983 ഒക്‌ടോബര്‍ 14ന് എറണാകുളം ജനറല്‍ ആശുപത്രിയിലെ ഇടനാഴിയില്‍വച്ചാണ് ബ്രിട്ടോയെ കെഎസ്യു നേതാവായിരുന്ന ജിയോ മാത്യു കുത്തിവീഴ്ത്തിയത്. മഹാരാജാസില്‍ കെഎസ്യു അക്രമത്തില്‍ പരിക്കേറ്റ സഹപ്രവര്‍ത്തകരെ കാണാന്‍ ആശുപത്രിയിലെത്തിയതായിരുന്നു ബ്രിട്ടോ. അന്ന് എല്‍എല്‍ബി വിദ്യാര്‍ഥിയായിരുന്ന സൈമണ് ബ്രിട്ടോ . നട്ടെല്ലിനു മൂന്നു കുത്തേറ്റ ബ്രിട്ടോയുടെ അരയ്ക്ക് കീഴോട്ട് തളര്‍ന്നു. അന്നുമുതല്‍ വീല്‍ചെയറിലായിരുന്നു ജീവിതം. സമരവേദികളിലും സാംസ്‌കാരിക വേദികളിലും ഒരുപോലെ സജീവമായി. 'എന്റെ ശത്രുവിന് ഞാന്‍ മരിച്ചുകാണണമായിരുന്നു. അതിനെ പരാജയപ്പെടുത്തിയ ജീവിതമായിരുന്നു എന്റെ സമരം.' ഒരു അഭിമുഖത്തില്‍ ബ്രിട്ടോ പറയുകയുണ്ടായി. വീല്ചെയറില് യാത്രകളും വായനയും എഴുത്തും സൗഹൃദവുമായി തളരാതെ മുന്നോട്ട്. അക്ഷരങ്ങളെ സ്‌നേഹിച്ചിരുന്ന ബ്രിട്ടോ താന്‍ എഴുതാന്‍പോകുന്ന നോവലിലെ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളുടെ പശ്ചാത്തലം നേരിട്ടറിയാന്‍ തളര്‍ന്ന ശരീരവുമായി ഭാരതപര്യടനം തന്നെ നടത്തി.ആകെപ്പാടെ എനിക്ക് കിട്ടിയ ഒരേയൊരു ജീവിതം. അത് തളരാനുള്ളതല്ലെന്ന
