He is the second businessman after liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya to be declared a fugitive economic offender under provisions of the Fugitive Economic Offenders (FEO) Act which came into existence in August last year.

സാമ്പത്തിക കുറ്റകൃത്യങ്ങളുടെ പേരില്‍ എന്‍ഫോഴ്‌സ്‌മെന്റ് ഡയറക്ടറേറ്റിന്റെ അപേക്ഷ പരിഗണിച്ചാണ് മല്യയെ പിടികിട്ടാപ്പുള്ളിയായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത് .
ഇതോടെ മല്യയുടെ സ്വത്തുക്കള്‍ സര്‍ക്കാരിന് കണ്ടുകെട്ടാന്‍ കഴിയും.സാമ്പത്തിക തട്ടിപ്പുകള്‍ നടത്തി രാജ്യം വിടുന്നവരുടെ സ്വത്തുക്കള്‍ കണ്ടുകെട്ടുന്നത് വ്യവസ്ഥ ചെയ്യുന്ന നിയമം പാര്‍ലമെന്റ് പാസാക്കിയിരുന്നു. ഈ നിയമപ്രകാരമാണ് മല്യയെ മുംബൈ കോടതി പിടികിട്ടാപ്പുള്ളിയായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത്.
2016 മാര്‍ച്ചിലാണ് മല്യ രാജ്യം വിട്ടത്.
യുകെ കോടതി മല്യയെ ഇന്ത്യയിലേക്ക് നാടുകടത്താന്‍ വിധിച്ചതിന് പിന്നാലെ വായ്പ എടുത്ത തുക മുഴുവന്‍ തിരിച്ചടയ്ക്കാന്‍ തയ്യാറാണ് അത് സ്വീകരിക്കണം എന്ന അഭ്യര്‍ഥന ട്വിറ്റിലൂടെ മല്യ നടത്തിയിരുന്നു.

UK Home Secretary Priti Patel has signed off on the order to extradite Nirav Modi, wanted in India on fraud and money laundering charges related to the estimated USD 2-billion Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam case, senior Indian diplomatic sources in the UK said on Friday. Modi, 50, who remains behind bars at Wandsworth Prison in south-west London, has 14 days to apply for permission to appeal against the Home Secretary's order in the High Court in London.
