Paparazzi, French media and a British royal: The publication of topless photos of Prince William's wife Kate has reunited the same players whose clash ended with the untimely death of his mother, Princess Diana, in a Parisian car crash.
William, who has long harbored a grudge against the paparazzi who chased Diana in the days and hours leading up to her 1997 death, was clearly infuriated. The royal couple hit back with an immediate lawsuit against the popular French gossip magazine Closer, which is owned by former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's Mondadori publishing empire.

An Italian gossip magazine has provoked outcry by publishing intimate pictures of the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge in a bikini while on holiday in the Caribbean.
Gossip rag Chi - owned by former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi- printed the photographs of William and Kate during their recent stay on the paradise island of Mustique .
On a website publicising Chi, Kate is pictured on the magazine's front cover in a blue bikini, which shows her slight baby bump , striding knee-high through the sea above the headline 'the belly grows'.
A second image shows the Duke, wearing a pair of shorts, with his left arm around his wife as they walk along a beach, under the headline 'Kate and William honeymoon in three'.
The magazine, which hits newsstands tomorrow, also gives details of the luxury £19,000-a-week luxury villa the couple are staying in.
It is believed that the royal couple are still holidaying on Mustique and were reportedly joined by Kate's family, parents Carole and Michael Middleton and her siblings James and Pippa.
St James's Palace would not comment on whether William had been informed about the issue or if they were considering any form of legal action against the magazine.
But a spokesman condemned the magazine for breaching the royal couple's privacy.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were enjoying a nice breakfast when they were informed of the nude photo scandal that would shock them both.
Shortly before departing to visit a mosque in Kuala Lumpur, Kate Middleton and Prince William were told that French magazine Closer had photos from last week's topless vacation times and were publishing said photographs.
The couple then saw the magazine cover in question when they realized the photos were in fact authentic. (The two had been sunbathing together on private property when the photos were taken from a great distance.)
Needless to say, the couple were 'hurt, shocked, furious and disgusted.' And, as we previously reported, they do plan on seeking legal action against the magazine.

The royal family said it will sue the magazine, Closer, for breach of privacy, The Associated Press reported.
Closer's editor defended the photos, saying the couple’s poolside frolic was 'visible from the street'.
'These photos are not in the least shocking,” said Laurence Pieau told BBC. “They show a young woman sunbathing topless, like the millions of women you see on beaches.”
