'General Hospital' actor John Ingle is dead at age 84. According to a Facebook post by an Ingle family member, the veteran actor passed away on Sunday, Sept. 16.
The post reads:
'Father, Husband, Grandan, Great Grandan, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Teacher, Inspirer, Mentor: May You Soar with the Angels. You will forever hold a special place in the deepest corners of our hearts. You were joy, light and love. Goodness at its very best. For the rest of our days, we will all do our best to continue to make you proud. Rest in peace and continue to spread your generous spirit in the heavens above. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.'
'General Hospital' executive producer Frank Valentini confirmed the news on Twitter. He wrote: 'We love him and will miss him. John will always be part of the #GH family.'
Ingle most recently appeared on the ABC soap just last week, reprising his role as patriarch Edward Quartermaine, a character he had played since 1993. His career spanned more than three decades and included prolific appearances on other television soap operas such as 'Melrose Place,' 'Beverly Hills, 90210' and 'Days of our Lives.'
Ingle's wife Grace-Lynne Martin passed away on Feb. 11, 2012; the couple had five children together.

John Ingle, who taught acting to eventual Oscar winners Richard Dreyfuss and Nicolas Cage, then starred as stately patriarch Edward Quartermaine for two decades on ABC’s 'General Hospital,' died Sept. 16, his family reported. He was 84.
Ingle, who gained his first acting credit at 53, played Quartermaine from 1996 until December 2003, then returned in April 2006 when the show’s producers responded to popular demand. In the interim, he starred as Mickey Horton on NBC’s 'Days of Our Lives.'

His daughter Jennifer noted on Facebook that her father, in a wheelchair, returned to the 'General Hospital' set Aug. 24 for what “will undoubtedly be his last performance on the show. His scene was small, and he had very few words … but his presence on the set was monumental,” she wrote.
“Beginning with a standing ovation by the entire cast and crew as we entered the set, to the line of people waiting to hug and wish him well, it was a day that he (and we) will remember forever.”
Ingle began teaching acting at Hollywood High School in the mid-1950s, then worked at Beverly Hills High School until the 1980s. His other students included Swoosie Kurtz, David Schwimmer, Jonathan Prince, Julie Kavner, Stefanie Powers, Joanna Gleason and Albert Brooks.

John Ingle, a stalwart on the ABC daytime drama General Hospital for two decades, died on Sunday, a representative for the show confirmed to PEOPLE. He was 84.
In a posting on Facebook Monday, his family said: 'Father, Husband, Grandan, Great Grandan, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Teacher, Inspirer, Mentor: May You Soar with the Angels. You will forever hold a special place in the deepest corners of our hearts.'
Frank Valenti, executive producer of General Hospital, on which Ingle played calculating patriarch Edward Quartermaine from 1992 until last week, also Tweeted: 'With great sadness, I share the news of John Ingle's passing. We love him and will miss him. John will always be a part of the #GH family.'
In person, Ingle was said to be nothing like his character on the program. A native of Tulsa, according to the Internet Movie Database, Ingle graduated Occidental College in Los Angeles and became a teacher of English and theater – first at Hollywood High School, then at Beverly Hills High.
Among his students, it is reported, were David Schwimmer, Swoosie Kurtz, Julie Kavner, Albert Brooks, Nicolas Cage and several other future stars.
In 1954, a year before he started at Hollywood High, he wed Grace-Lynn Martin, and the two remained married 58 years, until her death this past February. They had five daughters, says IMDB.

John Ingle, a star actor on the daytime drama 'General Hospital,' dies at 84.
John Ingle, 84, an actor who played scheming patriarch Edward Quartermaine on the daytime drama 'General Hospital,' died of cancer Sunday in Los Angeles, ABC said.
Ingle took over the role as the ruthless businessman Quartermaine from actor David Lewis in 1993 and made his final appearance in an episode airing last week. He also played Mickey Horton on 'Days of Our Lives' during a two-year break from 'General Hospital' beginning in 2004.
For decades before he became a professional actor, Ingle taught drama at Hollywood High School, Beverly Hills High School, Occidental College, Los Angeles City College and UCLA. His students included Richard Dreyfuss, Nicolas Cage, Albert Brooks, Barbara Hershey and David Schwimmer.
In the early 1980s, when he decided to leave the classroom for the sound stage, Ingle knew what roles he might land as an actor in his mid-50s.
'I've either married someone, buried them, fired them, judged them or lectured to them,' he recalled in a 1995 interview with The Times.
His credits included TV shows such as 'Big Love,' 'The Drew Carey Show,' 'Night Court' and 'The Paper Chase' and films such as 'Death Becomes Her' and 'Heathers.'
