ലോകത്തെ ആദ്യ എസ്.എം.എസിന് 25 വയസ്സ് പിന്നിടുന്നു. 1992 ഡിസംബര്‍ 3നായിരുന്നു ലോകത്തെ ആദ്യ എസ്.എം.എസ് പിറന്നത്.മെരി ക്രിസ്തുമസ് എന്നതായിരുന്നു ലോകത്തെ ആദ്യ എസ്.എം.എസ്. വോഡാഫോണിന് വേണ്ടി നീല്‍ പാപ് വൊര്‍ത്ത് എന്ന 22 കാരനായഎഞ്ചിനീയറാണ് ആദ്യ എസ്എംഎസ് അയച്ചത്. കംപ്യൂട്ടര്‍ വഴിയാണ് ഈ എസ്എംഎസ് അയച്ചത്. വോഡാഫോണ്‍ ഡയറക്ടറായ റിച്ചാര്‍ജ് ജാര്‍വിസിനാണ് ആദ്യ എസ്എഎസ് ലഭിച്ചത്. പിന്നീട് 1993 ലാണ് നോക്കിയ മൊബൈല്‍ ഫോണുകളിലേക്ക് എസ്എംഎസ് അയക്കാനുള്ള ഫീച്ചര്‍ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. 160 അക്ഷരങ്ങളാണ് എസ്എഎസില്‍ ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്യാന്‍ സാധിച്ചിരുന്നത്. അക്ഷര സന്ദേശങ്ങള്‍ അയക്കാന്‍ ഇമെയില്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പടെ മറ്റ് ചില മാര്‍ഗങ്ങള്‍ മാത്രമാണ്ടായിരുന്ന കാലഘട്ടത്തിലായിരുന്നു എസ്.എം.എസിന്റെ വരവ്.

അതിനിടെയാണ് ഗുഹയിലെ പാറകളിൽ മൂന്നു കുഴികൾ കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. ഏകദേശം 60 സെ.മീ ആഴമുള്ളവയായിരുന്നു ആ കുഴികള്‍. സൂക്ഷ്മ പരിശോധനയില്‍ അവ ധാന്യങ്ങൾ പൊടിക്കാനും മറ്റു വസ്തുക്കൾ ചതയ്ക്കാനുമെല്ലാം ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതാണെന്നു വ്യക്തമായി. ആ അന്വേഷണം പുരോഗമിക്കവെയാണ് ഗോതമ്പ്, ബാർലി എന്നിവ പുളിപ്പിച്ചു വാറ്റി മദ്യമുണ്ടാക്കുന്നതിന്റെ സൂചന ലഭിച്ചത്. ശവസംസ്കാരവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട ആചാരങ്ങളുടെ ഭാഗമായിട്ടായിരുന്നു മദ്യം ഉൽപാദിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നത്.
നേരത്തേ കരുതിയിരുന്നത്, മനുഷ്യന് ഭക്ഷണമാക്കാനുള്ള ധാന്യമെടുത്ത് ബാക്കിയുള്ളവ കൊണ്ടായിരുന്നു മദ്യം ഉൽപാദിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നതെന്നാണ്. എന്നാൽ പുതിയ കണ്ടെത്തലോടെയാകട്ടെ ആ ധാരണ തിരുത്തപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തു. എന്നാൽ ഇന്നത്തെപ്പോലെയുള്ള ബിയറായിരുന്നില്ല ഉൽപാദിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നത്. ലഹരിയും പുളിപ്പുമുള്ള കഞ്ഞിവെള്ളത്തിനു സമാനമായ പാനീയമായിരുന്നു അത്. ലഭ്യമായ സൂചനകളെല്ലാം ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ഗവേഷകർ ഈ പ്രാകൃത ബിയർ ഉൽപാദിപ്പിച്ചെടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അപ്പോഴുണ്ടായ ധാന്യ അവശിഷ്ടങ്ങളും മറ്റും പഴയകാലത്ത് ബാക്കി വന്ന അതേ വസ്തുക്കൾക്കു സമാനവുമായിരുന്നെന്നും പഠനത്തിനു നേതൃത്വം നൽകിയ സ്റ്റാൻഫഡ് സർകലാശാല പ്രഫസര്‍ ലി ലിയു പറയുന്നു. മുളപ്പിച്ച ഗോതമ്പും ബാർലിയുമാണ് മദ്യോൽപാദനത്തിന് ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നത്. ഈ കൂട്ട് അരച്ചത് പിന്നീട് ചൂടാക്കും. ഇത് ‘വൈൽഡ് യീസ്റ്റ്’ ഉപയോഗിച്ചു പുളിപ്പിച്ചായിരുന്നു മദ്യം വാറ്റിയെടുത്തിരുന്നത്.
