Royal Challengers Bangalore, on Wednesday, have announced that their all-rounder Daniel Sams has tested positive for COVID-19. The Australia star is the second player from the Bangalore-based outfit to contract the virus was opening batsman Devdutt Padikkal. The left-handed batsman had tested positive on March 22 and has been isolating at his home in Bengaluru since then.
Unlike Padikkal, Sams joined the RCB camp in Chennai before being tested positive. According to the statement from the franchise, the 28-year old arrived in Chennai on April 3 and tested negative. However, his report from the second test on Wednesday came positive. The franchise also confirmed that their new recruit is not showing any symptoms and is currently in isolation.
“Daniel Sams checked into the team hotel in Chennai on April 3rd, with a negative COVID report on arrival. His report from the 2nd test on 7th April came positive. Sams is currently asymptomatic and he is currently in isolation at a designated medical facility,” RCB stated in an official release.
“Royal Challengers Bangalore medical team is in constant touch with Daniel Sams and continue to monitor his health and abide by the BCCI protocols,” added the franchise.

South Africa pacer Anrich Nortje has been tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of Delhi Capitals’ second game against the Rajasthan Royals. The bowler was in the middle of his quarantine period and was expected to start training along with Kagiso Rabada from April 14. But he will now have to undergo 10 days of isolation and return two negative tests before joining the bubble again.
Interestingly, there is no confirmation yet over when did he test positive for the virus. Earlier, there were reports of Nitish Rana and Devdutt Padikkal testing positive as well but their respective franchise later revealed that the cricketers had contracted the virus at an earlier date.
Sources in the know of developments clarified that Anrich Nortje started his quarantine period with a negative test report. But he has now been tested positive while in the middle of his isolation period. “He came in with a negative report, but has unfortunately tested positive now while undergoing quarantine, the source said according to India Today.

Coming back to the postponement of the second T20I between the two teams, Outlook reported the news of all-rounder Krunal Pandya testing positive. It is also understood that eight close contacts have been identified, all from the Indian contingent, and are in isolation. Both the teams will be tested now and only if all return negative results, the series will resume.

The Yellow Army will get a six-day break after the PBKS encounter and will face the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 1 (Sunday).

It is to be noted that Conway was purchased by the Yellow Army during IPL 2022 mega auction for INR one crore. The left-handed batter made his IPL debut for CSK in the opening game of IPL 2022 against the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
