he second T20I between Sri Lanka and India has been postponed to Wednesday, July 28 only hours before the commencement. It has been understood that the India all-rounder Krunal Pandya has been tested positive for COVID-19. The players have been in the bio-bubble ever since they reached Sri Lanka but there is no confirmation if there was any breach.

India is currently leading the three-match T20I series by 1-0 having won the opening game comfortably by 1-0 by 38 runs. The visitors had posted a total of 164 runs after being invited to bat first. Suryakumar Yadav (50) and Shikhar Dhawan (46) were the stars with the bat for them. With the ball, Bhuvneshwar Kumar led the way picking up 4/22 as Sri Lanka were bundled out for just 126 runs in the 19th over itself to concede an early lead in the series.

Coming back to the postponement of the second T20I between the two teams, Outlook reported the news of all-rounder Krunal Pandya testing positive. It is also understood that eight close contacts have been identified, all from the Indian contingent, and are in isolation. Both the teams will be tested now and only if all return negative results, the series will resume.

Krunal has tested positive and the T20I on Tuesday has been postponed and will happen on Wednesday if all the others test negative. The players are currently isolating,” a source close to the developments said. As it stands for now, the second and third T20Is will now be played back to back on Wednesday and Thursday.

ICC's New T20I Rules - All You Need To Know About The New Rule Changes In T20I Cricket

An in-match penalty for slow over rates in men’s and women’s Twenty20 Internationals comes into effect this month, with the updated playing conditions also providing for an optional drinks interval midway through the innings in bilateral T20 international cricket.

The over rate regulations are captured in clause 13.8 of the playing conditions (here), which stipulate that a fielding side must be in position to bowl the first ball of the final over of the innings by the scheduled or rescheduled time for the end of the innings. If they are not in such a position, one fewer fielder will be permitted outside of the 30-yard circle for the remaining overs of the innings.

The change was recommended by the ICC Cricket Committee, which regularly discusses ways to improve the pace of play in all formats, after considering reports on the effectiveness of a similar regulation that was included in the playing conditions for the Hundred competition conducted by the ECB.

The in-match penalties are in addition to the sanctions for slow over rate outlined in Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

Optional drinks break of 2 mins and 30 seconds:
In another change, an optional drinks break of two minutes and thirty seconds may be taken at the mid-point of each innings subject to agreement between Members at the start of each series.

The first men’s match to be played under the new playing conditions will be the one-off tie between the West Indies and Ireland at the Sabina Park in Jamaica on 16 January while the first T20I of the three-match series between South Africa and the West Indies in Centurion on 18 January will be the first women’s match played under the new playing conditions.

As far as India are concerned, they are scheduled to play their next T20I in February at home against West Indies. The Caribbean side will tour India to play three ODIs and as many T20 Internationals. The

Pacers Arshdeep Singh and Deepak Chahar’s opening spell bursts proved too much for the South Africans as they got reduced to 9/5 and eventually managed just 106/8 in their 20 overs and lost the opening fixture by an eight-wicket margin in Thiruvananthapuram.

Suryakumar Yadav continued his brilliant form as he and KL Rahul struck unbeaten fifties to seal the deal for the hosts. The second of the three-match T20I series will take place on Sunday, October 02 at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati
