Glimpses of a Kashmiri Village' questions stereotypes about Kashmir's as backward and all Kashmiris as militants. It presents a new Kashmir, conceptualized post independence under the leadership of the charismatic Sheikh Abdullah. Kashmir introduced land reforms in 1947 under the radical manifesto of 'Naya Kashmir' or new Kashmir. Land was given to the tiller, women's education emphasized and infrastructure for electricity and irrigation built. This has led to unprecedented prosperity in rural Kashmir. The film presents a series of progressive developments in areas of health care, education and infrastructure. The film goes on to explain some of the conflicts between the generations - the elders grateful for the prosperity but youngsters disenchanted. Education has developed their aspirations and they dream of a better life in metropolitan cities or abroad
