'The first semi-final of the 2014 Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup saw Australia take on the USA.
The USA, ranked 10th in the world, was in their first World Cup semi-final for twenty years up against two time winners Australia. The first half was a tense affair with few clear-cut chances until the 33rd minute when Kellie White put Australia 1-0 up with a shot that came off USA's Lauren Crandall's stick and settled in the back of the goal.
USA keeper Jackie Kintzer kept her nation in the game with a fantastic save in the 45th minute, and three minutes later Kelsey Kolojejchick drew the USA level at 1-1 with a great solo effort. Five minutes later Australia re-took the lead from a penalty corner converted by Anna Flanagan. The USA frantically tried to find an equaliser and with two minutes to play they got it through an effort by Kolojejchick. Australia contested the goal but didn't have a video referral and the goal stood to force a shoot-out for a place in the final.
Both teams had their first shoot-out efforts saved before Australia went 1-0 ahead thanks to Kellie White. Kolojejchick scored the next effort for the USA to level at 1-1. Georgie Parker put Australia 2-1 up and then Aussie keeper Rachael Lynch saved Michelle Kasold's effort. Jodie Kenny stepped up for the decisive shot and prevailed to send Australia to the World Cup final.

'Host nation the Netherlands took on current champions Argentina in the second semi-final of the 2014 Rabobank Women's Hockey World cup to see who will play Australia in the final.
Five minutes into the game the Netherlands' Kelly Jonker found herself one-on-one with the keeper but stumbled before she could get a shot away. The Dutch were putting pressure on the Argentinian defence and in the 10th minute they went 1-0 up with a great field goal by 18 year old Xan de Waard. Six minutes later the score was 2-0 when Maartje Paumen blasted home a penalty corner. The Oranje were running away with the game and went 3-0 in the 22nd minute when Kim Lammers controlled a bouncing ball to send it into the cage.
With the job done in the first half, the Netherlands focused on defending their lead but didn't come up against a troubling Argentinian side. In the final minute of the game, the Dutch put the icing on the cake and scored a great, flowing team goal finished by Kim Lammers to put the Netherlands safely into the final against Australia.

'The first semi-final of the 2014 Rabobank Men's Hockey World Cup saw host nation Netherlands take on England.
England almost got off to the perfect start with Nick Catlin finding Ashley Jackson free in the circle and Jaap Stockmann had to make a reflex save. The Netherlands then started to build up a head of steam and had a penalty corner effort cleared off the line and then hit the crossbar. The breakthrough finally came in the 31st minute when Mick van der Weerden converted a penalty corner to send the Dutch into the break with a 1-0 lead.
England struggled to create many opportunities in the second half and had to be alert to clear a Dutch effort off the line. In the end, the Oranje were able to hold on to their slender 1-0 lead and book their place in the World Cup final.

'Australia and Argentina went up against each other in the second semi-final of the 2014 Men's Hockey World Cup to determine who will play Netherlands in the final.
Australia got off to a flying start and scored from their first penalty corner in the 4th minute with Kieran Govers blasting home from the top of the circle. It was another penalty corner from which the 2-0 goal was scored; this time Jeremy Hayward finishing for the Kookaburras. Jacob Whetton then scored a fantastic solo goal in the 33rd minute to send Australia up 3-0 going into the break.
Australia continued their dominance in the second half and another penalty corner produced the fourth goal, this time scored by Chris Ciriello. Shortly after, Jeremy Hayward got his second goal of the game to put the Aussies 5-0 up. Argentina pulled the score back to 5-1 in the 58th minute when Gonzalo Peillat struck a ferocious shot in from a penalty corner. However, the four goal deficit was too much to overcome and Australia sailed into the final to play the Netherlands.

'Round 4 of Pool B of the 2014 Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup began with the clash between Germany and the USA.
Germany dominated the early stages of the game and created more chances, but the USA eventually wrestled their way into the game and took a 1-0 from a counter attack in the 33rd minute through Kathleen Sharkey.
The USA picked up where they left off in the second half and Caroline Nichols converted a penalty corner in the 39th minute to put her nation up 2-0. Things went from bad to worse for Germany three minutes later and they found themselves 3-0 down when they gave Katie Reinprecht acres of space to fire home a shot. The USA didn't sit back and scored their fourth goal when Kathleen Sharkey was gifted the ball by a German defensive error and she finished fantastically. Kristina Hillmann pulled a goal back for Germany in the 59th minute but the 4-1 score line was enough for the USA to end Germany's hopes of a semi-final place.

'The USA went into their final game of Pool B at the top of the standings but were up against South Africa looking to climb up into fourth place at the 2014 Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup.
In a tense first half, South Africa's Sulette Damons was the stand-out player with her mazy runs. The USA came close to opening the scoring in the 31st minute when Paige Selenski was found unmarked in the circle but dragged her shot wide of the post. With a minute until halftime the USA were awarded a penalty stroke and Caroline Nichols put her nation 1-0 up.
Mere seconds into the second half, South Africa equalised through Marsha Cox after a long pass into the circle by Kathleen Taylor. The USA replied three minutes later and went 2-1 up after Katie Reinprecht converted a penalty corner with a diving effort. Unfortunately, Sulette Damons hurt her ankle whilst bravely defending the PC and had to be taken off. In the 45th minute, the USA were awarded their second penalty stroke of the game and this time Lauren Crandall stepped up and fired her team into a 3-1 lead. South Africa raced down the other half and drew the score back to 3-2 within a minute with Lisa-Marie Deetlefs scoring from a PC. Rachel Dawson extended the USA's lead to 4-2 in the 57th minute from another PC to ensure the American's place in the semi-finals.

Argentina went up against the USA to determine which nation would finish third at the 2014 Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup.
Argentina drew first blood in the 8th minute with Luciana Aymar superbly deflecting a high pass into the goal. However, the lead only lasted two minutes as the USA scored from their first penalty corner with Lauren Crandall deflecting in a shot at the post to put the teams level at 1-1. Argentina retook the lead in the 22nd minute with Aymar getting her second goal of the game. The USA peppered the Argentinian goal with shots but could not find an equaliser before the break.
The Americans made a great effort to force a shoot-out but could not break through the Argentinian defence and the defending World Cup champions ensured they would go home with bronze medals.
