The final day of the Men's Hero Hockey Junior World Cup in India saw Korea and New Zealand compete for 7th and 8th place with New Zealand winning 4-2.

Both teams showed from the start that they were in attacking mood and Jeremy Morris gave the advantage to the Black Sticks in the 11th minute with a powerful back hand that went through the keeper. Korea came back on par immediately by You Minyoung pouncing on a cross mishandled by the New Zealand defence.

Kane Russell continued the scoring spree with a penalty-corner flick that was nearly stopped by the keeper's stick but still trickled over the line.

Korea were credited with a goal when the ball slightly brushed off the pads of Richard Joyce in the Black Sticks goal and the video-umpire decided on an own goal. The see-saw continued and New Zealand regained the lead just before half-time with another penalty-corner by Kane Russell.

New Zealand also missed their good share of chances, including a monumental opportunity when Jeremy Morris missed a perfect pass alone on the far post after Kane Russell wiggled his way through the whole Korean defence.

New Zealand earned a penalty-corner literally in the last second of play, allowing Kane Russell to complete a hat-trick.

New Zealand finished in 7th place of the 2013 Hero Hockey Junior World Cup, pushing Korea down to 8th.

    'The last match of pool play between India and Korea was eagerly expected by the Indian fans and media. The local team absolutely needed to win to qualify for the quarter-finals, when a loss or even a draw would push Korea through.

    India was immediately on the attack and forced a penalty-corner in the 3rd minute, but Lee Seyoung easily saved the low drag flick. Korea were equally unsuccessful on their first penalty-corner when You Seungju crashed his powerful drag-flick on the crossbar. The match was launched on a high tempo and the crowd was in for a thriller!

    Korea had another penalty-corner opportunity but You Seungju was again a tad too high. He however managed to make the necessary adjustment and was on target in the 16th minute, silencing the crowd with a flick over the head of Sushant Tirkey in the Indian goal.

    Atmosphere was hot in the stands and on the pitch and Korea picked up two yellow cards in the battle. They did not seem bothered by the situation and even created a good scoring chance while playing short two men. India saw many of their passes going astray and wasted another corner chance before Gurjinder Singh was finally on target on yet another penalty-corner three minutes from time.

    South Africa met New Zealand in Hero Hockey Junior World Cup Pool D in New Delhi, South Africa went into the game in driving seat, needing only to avoid losing to advance to the quarter-finals, but it was New Zealand's Kane Russell with the deciding goal to give Black sticks slender 1-0 victory, who Qualify for the quarter -- finals.

    South Africa had the best chance of the first half, after great play down the right, Damian Kimfley found himself in front of an open goal, but could only hit his shot wide, an unbelievable miss.

    Down the other end New Zealand came close to taking the lead, Daniel Bell's shot from a well worked penalty corner, pushed over by an on rushing Oliver Macintyre.

    South Africa came close from a penalty corner of their own, Matthew's Browns shot forcing two quick saves the first coming from keeper Ben Smith, and the second by Sanjay Lala, tipping Browns shot over the bar.

    New Zealand got there breakthrough in the 10 minutes into the second half, Kane Russell getting his fourth goal of the tournament, this one coming from a penalty corner, a powerful dragflick into the side netting.

    Moments later Kane Russell was denied his second of the game by am unbelievable save from Richard Curtis.

    New Zealand faced Malaysia in the Hero Hockey Junior World Cup, in a Pool D fixture; it was Malaysia who prevailed victorious with a 3-2 win in their opening game.

    It was Malaysia that got onto the score sheet first, with a well worked penalty corner converted by Muhammad Bin Saabah, 1-0 Malaysia.

    New Zealand levelled the score soon after with a penalty corner of their own, a pacey drag flick into the roof of the net from Kane Russell.

    Ashari Firhan came close to giving Malaysia the lead with a reverse stick shot, after a surging run, to only see his shot head into the side netting.

    Ninety seconds into the second half, Malaysia took the lead against the run of play, Faiz Bin Jali's drive into the circle, finds Muhammad Bin Baharom unmarked at the far post to tap in.

    Malaysia came close to widened the gap, Shazril Bin Nazli dive into the circle finds Mohamad Bin Mohd Yusof, his deathly touch forces a reaction save from keeper.

    Russell got his second of the match from another penalty corner, with another superb drag flick into the corner, levelling the score 2-2.

    With minutes left on the clock Malaysia took the lead yet again, from another penalty corner, the initial shot pushed onto the post, Ashari Firhan was fastest to the loose ball to squeezes it in at the near post, Malaysia went back in front for the third time.

    Both teams wanted to redeem themselves after losing their opening matches and play was immediately animated. England drew first blood in the 14th minute by James Gall, cleverly pulling away from traffic in the circle to find space and blast a shot on goal.

    They nearly doubled their tally when Nicholas Bandurak arrived alone in the circle after stealing a ball in midfield but he was thwarted by Richard Joyce in the Black Sticks goal. England however did not miss their chance on the resulting penalty-corner and Luke Taylor increased their lead to 2-0 with a high drag-flick.

    New Zealand came back firing on all cylinders after the break and immediately forced a couple of penalty-corners. They bobbled the first one but Kane Russell's low flick hit the target on the second one, bringing back the Kiwis within reach of England in the 39th minute. They kept the momentum and created time and again mayhem in the English defense but could not capitalize on the next penalty-corner.

    England had trouble keeping their head above water in this period. They managed to maintain their structure but were at times individually outplayed by the skilled New-Zealanders. English goal-keeper Harry Gibson kept his team alive with a fantastic save on a penalty-corner, but he could not do anything on a shot from close range by Matt Rees-Gibbs to tie the game in the 68th minute!

    On the second day of the Hero Hockey Junior World Cup Pool C in India, with Korea taking on the Netherlands. A close game between the two with not much separating the two sides but in the end Netherlands just edged it, winning 2-3.

    Netherland found the early goal and took the lead over Korea, 4 minutes in with a goal coming from Thierry BRINKMAN.

    But the Netherlands came out strong the season half and a goal 4 in by van BAAL Milan grabbing his 3rd of the tournaments and seeing them take away all 3 points and topping the Group.

Asian Champions Malaysia had been hugely impressive since the beginning of this Junior World Cup, and were pitted in this quarter-final against Asian rival Korea, who had shown strong character in their last pool match against India to come back from a 2-goal deficit and edge the local team out of contention.

    First Half started slow for both teams as they found there feet into the game. Malaysia, wearing a brightly colours yellow top, struck first when a cross into the D was met by Shahril Saabah and Malaysia went 1-0 up. Malaysia kept up the momentum and could have added a second when GOVINDASAMY Kartik Govindasamy hit from outside the D hit off Shahril Saabah stick and hit the upright and was cleared out by LEE Mookyoung, keeping Korea in the game. However Korea struck back 6 minutes before half time when YOU Seungju scored from a Penalty Corner leveling the scores before the break.

    Beginning of second period was somewhat messy, neither team wanting to give an inch and tempers flaring often. Malaysia had the territorial edge but could not capitalize on the opportunities they created and Korea where still keeping their heads above water going into the last ten minutes of the period.
    Malaysia however were looking the most likely to win creating a number of chance. Syamim Mohd Yusof run towards the D resulted in a pass into the D which was met by Hafiz

    Belgium and Australia went head to head in a battle for 5th and 6th place on the final day of the Men's Hero Hockey Junior World Cup in India where Australia needed a shootout to win after a 2-2 draw in normal play.

    The match started at a high tempo and Belgium made the breakthrough in the 25th minute when Maxime Plennevaux slotted the ball in the goal after Andrew Butturini in the Kookaburras' goal pushed it back three times in a mad goalmouth scramble.

    Belgium had a slight edge on the proceedings in the fairly balanced period and walked into the break with a slim but deserved one-goal lead.

    Australia came back strong in the second period, immediately pushing the Belgians on the back foot and levelling the score through William Gilmour in the 39th minute. The European Champions were unphased and regained their lead in the next minute with a superb backhand from Alexandre Vanlinthoudt that surprised Edward Chittleborough, in goal for the Kookaburras for this second period.

    Australia intensified their pressure and forced a penalty-corner after overwhelming the Belgian defence. The initial shot was saved but Jeremy Hayward collected the rebound and slammed it in the goal.

    Play became an intense tactical battle in midfield as both sides threw caution to the wind in the final minutes of play but the game was tied and the teams moved on to a shoot-out.competition.
