രാജ്യത്ത് മാതൃമരണ നിരക്ക് ഏറ്റവും കുറഞ്ഞ സംസ്ഥാനമായി കേരളം വീണ്ടും മുന്നിലെത്തിയിരിക്കുകയാണ്.
61 എന്ന നിലയില്‍ നിന്നും 46 ലേക്കാണ് കേരളത്തിലെ മാതൃമരണ നിരക്ക് ചുരുങ്ങിയത്. കേന്ദ്ര ആഭ്യന്തര മന്ത്രാലയത്തിന് കീഴിലുള്ള രജിസ്ട്രാര്‍ ജനറല്‍ ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യ സാമ്പിള്‍ രജിസ്‌ട്രേഷന്‍ സിസ്റ്റം ഉപയോഗിച്ചാണ് ഇത് പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചത്.ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ മൊത്തത്തില്‍ മാതൃ മരണ നിരക്ക് 130 ആകുമ്പോഴാണ് കേരളത്തില്‍ ഇത്ര വലിയ കുറവ് വരുത്തുവാന്‍ സാധിച്ചത്. മാതൃ മരണ നിരക്ക് കുറയ്ക്കുക എന്നതാണ് ഒരു സ്ഥലത്തെ ആരോഗ്യ പുരോഗതിയില്‍ ഏറ്റവുമധികം പ്രാധാന്യമര്‍ഹിക്കുന്ന കാര്യം.സുസ്ഥിര വികസന ലക്ഷ്യത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി മാതൃ ശിശു മരണനിരക്ക് കുറയ്ക്കുക എന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തോടെ വിവിധ പദ്ധതികളാണ് ആരോഗ്യ വകുപ്പ് ആവിഷ്‌കരിച്ച് നടപ്പിലാക്കി വരുന്നത്. 2020 ല്‍ മാതൃമരണ നിരക്ക് 30 ആക്കിയും 2030 ല്‍ 20 ആക്കിയും കുറച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവരാനുള്ള തീവ്ര ശ്രമത്തിലാണ് ആരോഗ്യ വകുപ്പ്.ഇതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി മികച്ച സൗകര്യങ്ങളാണ് ആശുപത്രികളില്‍ ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്.നമ്മുടെ ആരോഗ്യ രംഗത്തിന്‍റെ നെറുകയിലെ പൊന്‍ തൂവലാണ് പുതിയനേട്ടം
