Sochi 2014 Russia win two man bobsleigh after GB Jamaica exits News Video

Russia have claimed their first Olympic bobsleigh gold, with pilot Alexander Zubkov guiding the host nation to a commanding victory in Sochi.
Alongside Alexey Voevoda, Zubkov recorded a combined time of three minutes 45.39 seconds for four runs.
They finished 0.66 secs ahead of Switzerland, who took silver, while the USA sled, piloted by World Cup champion Steven Holcomb, finished third.
Great Britain were 23rd with the Jamaicans finishing 29th out of 30.
The success of Zubkov and Voevoda gave Russia their fifth gold medal of the Games.
The Team GB duo of Lamin Deen and John Baines were only paired last week following the withdrawal of Craig Pickering through injury.
They did not feature in the fourth and final run after they finished outside of the top 20 which qualified from round three.
'It hasn't been easy as we haven't had much time to prepare, but I felt we were getting better each round,' Deen told BBC Sport.
'We've had an extra nine runs on the track though and that will really help us come the four-man event.'
Jamaican pilot Winston Watts, 46, said he was disappointed the team could not finish higher but was delighted by the response to their presence in the event.
It was the Caribbean island's first appearance in bobsleigh at the Winter Olympics since 2002.
'We didn't achieve what we wanted to, but we lit up the Games and I'm pleased wi

Sochi 2014- How did Team GB perform at the Winter Olympics? News Video

Great Britain will look at the 2014 Sochi Olympics as a significant step forward for winter sport after surpassing the three-medal target set by UK Sport.
Lizzy Yarnold's skeleton gold, silver for the men's curlers, bronze for the women's curlers and Jenny Jones in snowboard slopestyle equalled the record of four medals Great Britain won at the inaugural Winter Olympics in Chamonix 1924.
UK Sport invested £13.4m from lottery and exchequer funding to achieve their goal, but could have earned more podium places.
Elise Christie's three disqualifications in short track were a bitter pill to swallow, highly-rated slopestyle skier James Woods was hampered by a hip injury in training and John Jackson's GBR 1 bobsleigh crew led briefly on a tense final afternoon in the Sochi sun.
Olympic sport is decided by fine margins - there are winners, losers and those in between. Four years of toil is done. The long road to Pyeongchang begins now.

Winter Olympics 2014: Google Doodle marks the Sochi Games

The doodle is has a striking and colourful vintage design.

To celebrate the start of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Google has created a multi-coloured, eye-catching doodle.

The doodle features some of the main sporting events that will be taking place, including skiing, snowboarding and curling.

It appears that the retro-themed doodle has been inspired by the design of the Sochi Games' website, where each sport is represented by a different colour and illustration.

The doodle is completed by a quote from the Olympic Charter just below the search bar which embodies the spirit of the Games, the first of which was held in Chamonix, France, in 1924

The Charter reads: 'The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.'

Despite this positive message, there has been much controversy surrounding Russia's human rights' record since Sochi won the bid to host the Winter Olympics. In particular concerns have been raised about the treatment of the country's gay community.

The Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics officially starts today with an opening ceremony at the Fisht Olympic Stadium. It will be running from the 7 -23 February while the Winter Paraly

The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practising sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.'
On the day the the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics (the 22nd Winter Olympics) in Russia begins, Google has posted a fundamental principle of the Olympic Charter on its home page along with a doodle showcasing six Winter Olympics disciplines presented in the colours of rainbow flag / pride flag, that represents gay pride.
The extract from the Olympic Charter and the doodle is Google's way of protesting against Russian President Vladimir Putin's scarcely veiled campaign against gays and there has also been much discussion on how Russia would deal with gay athletes during the Winter Games.

The same doodle and the extract has also been posted on Google's Russia home page.
The Olympic Charter is the codification of the Fundamental Principles of Olympism, rules and bye-laws adopted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It governs the organisation, action and operation of the Olympic Movement and sets forth the conditions for the celebration of the Olympic Games.
Some 3,000 athletes, a record for the Winter Olympics, will come for 98 events, includ
