Athar who first appeared for the civil services exam in 2014 while he was in the last year of his B Tech programme.
Athar has a piece of advice for those who consider CSE tough and highly competitive. “It is not a difficult exam but it definitely tests your patience and requires hard work and a positive attitude. The paper is lengthy and the syllabus is vast but all you need is commitment and focus,” Athar said.
The topper never limited his life to academics. He founded an electronics club in IIT has also co-founded the Society for Collaborative Research and Innovation. “I have never let an opportunity to learn go away. I am fond of reading and writing and have edited the college’s technical magazine Essent. Besides, I have actively participated in college festivals too,” said Athar.

Haryana's Anu Kumari, 31, secured second rank in UPSC exams and topped the prestigious examination among women. Mother of a four-year-old, Anu Kumari achieved this feat in her second attempt. She was just short of one mark in her previous UPSC preliminary examination. A devoted mother, she not only fulfilled her household responsibilities, but took out 10-12 hours every day for her studies.
'There was no newspaper in the village where I was preparing for my exams,' the second-rank holder from Sonipat. She resorted to online content for UPSC preparations, she said.
Sharing her success mantra of cracking the UPSC Civil Services Exam, Anu Kumari said, 'Strong will is necessary to achieve something in life and if you are able to do that, nothing can stop you from being successful.'

...फिलहाल दोनों की मसूरी के लाल बहादुर शास्त्री नेशनल एकेडमी फॉर ऐडमिनिस्ट्रेशन में ट्रेनिंग चल रही है। एक अंग्रेजी अखबार को दिए इंटरव्यू में टीना डाबी ने बताया कि उनकी और अतहर की शादी की तारीख तो फिलहाल तय नहीं हुई है, लेकिन दोनों की बहुत जल्द सगाई करने वाले हैं। दिल्ली के लेडी श्रीराम कॉलेज से ग्रेजुएशन करने वाली 22 वर्षीय टीना यूपीएससी फाइनल में पहले स्थान पर रही थीं, तो वही दूसरा स्थान जम्मू-कश्मीर के अतहर आमिर उल शफी खान ने हासिल किया था। दोनों की मुलाकात नॉर्थ ब्लॉक के डिपार्टमेंट ऑफ पर्सनल एंड ट्रेनिंग के दफ्तर में हुई थी और तभी से दोनों में प्यार हो गया था। अपनी बातों को बिंदास तरीके से रखने वाली टीना रिजर्व कैटेगिरी से आती हैं। दो अलग समाज और धर्म होने के बावजूद टीना और अतहर ने अपने रिश्ते को कभी दुनिया से नहीं छिपाया। इस फैसले से दोनों के ही परिवार खुश हैं। टीना मानती हैं कि एक तरफ जहां उनके इस फैसले को लोगों का खुलकर समर्थन मिला, तो वहीं कुछ कट्टरवादी सोच के लोग अपनी नकारात्मक टिप्पणी देने से भी नहीं चुके।
धर्म, जाति और समाज से उठकर टीना ओर अतहर का शादी करने का यह फैसला उन सभी तबके के लोगों के लिए प्रेरणा है जो बदलते वक्त के साथ अपने में बदलाव नहीं ला पाते है और समाज द्धारा बनाई गई कूरीतियों में जकड़े रहते है।..

When the results came, I was not very unhappy about it, instead I was not satisfied with my efforts. I decided to work on my shortcomings in this attempt. I had the same feeling that MS Dhoni had when he was not selected for National Team for the first time (Courtesy – MS DHONI – The Untold Story movie). I told to myself that this failure taught me my shortcoming – lack of writing practice.
As the saying goes, “Tiny drops of water make an ocean”, I have been benefitted from the guidance and inputs of many noble souls. Hence, I deem it my yeoman duty to share the strategy that worked for me. However, I firmly believe, in case of CSE preparation that “every journey is unique” though the destination is same. When we have 1000 candidates cracking the exam it means that we also have so many different strategies and approaches .Thus, for CSE preparation, one size doesn’t fit all.
Hence, I request you not to blindly follow me, but formulate your own strategy keeping in mind your challenges, strengths, capacity, aptitude and situations in life.
In the write up that follows below I would try to give a brief account of my 4 years journey, the purpose of the write up will be served if the take away is “Success is not final, failure is not fatal; It is the courage to continue that counts”
