A nine-year-old migrant girl was sexually assaulted by a youth at Badhni Kalan village in Moga district, police said on Monday.
Investigating officer ASI Manpreet Kaur said a case under Sections 376 and 511 of the IPC and under the POCSO Act had been registered against Bablu Singh of Sitamarhi in Bihar at the Badhni Kalan police station.
The police said the medical examination of the girl confirmed that she was sexually abused, after which the case was registered. Meanwhile, the girl was undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The girl’s mother told the police that her daughter was dragged into the fields near their residence and was sexually abused in the fields.
The ASI said Bablu was absconding after the incident. The police had carried out raids at his residence and other possible hideouts and he would be arrested soon, the ASI said.---- ----- --- --- --------------- ---.

The Union Cabinet Wednesday approved amendments in the POCSO Act, which deals with crime against children, and included death penalty for sexual assault on minors, officials said. The amendments in the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act also provide for fines and imprisonment to curb child pornography. The changes are expected to discourage the trend of child sexual abuse by acting as a deterrent due to strong penal provisions incorporated in the Act, the government said.
