Authorities will work to ensure the safety of the police officer who shot and killed an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri Governor Jay Nixon said Friday, as police met protestor demands and named the officer.
The officer who shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown on Saturday afternoon outside an apartment complex in Ferguson is Darren Wilson, who has served six years on the force with a good record, Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson said at a news conference Friday.
Jackson said there had been a report of a robbery in the area just before Wilson encountered Brown walking down the street near an apartment complex.
The deadly interaction was swift: Jackson said Wilson encountered Brown at 12:01 p.m. and had shot him by 12:04 p.m.
Police had held back naming Wilson so far because of fears he could be harmed amid a volatile and sometimes-violent week of angry protests that have followed Brown’s death.
Authorities have said Wilson was placed on paid administrative leave after the shooting.
Nixon told ABC News Friday the officer would be protected against any possible retaliation.
“I think that will be a step on the road to healing here and justice,†Nixon told ABC News.

अब तक हम सभी ने सिर्फ मौत के बाद अंतिम संस्कार के लिए ले जाते हुए किसी की शव यात्रा देखी होगी। लेकिन आज जो हम आपको बताने जा रहे हैं, वह पलभर के लिए आपको जरूर हैरान कर देगा। मध्य प्रदेश में जीवित महिला की शव यात्रा निकाले जाने की परंपरा लंबे समय से निभाई जा रही है। कहा जाता है कि समय पर बारिश नहीं होने पर यह टोटका कर भगवान इंद्र को प्रसन्न किया जाता है। उसके बाद अच्छी बारिश होती है। मध्य प्रदेश के मंडला जिले के जुनवानी गांव में बारिश के लिए जीवित महिला की शव यात्रा निकाले जाने की कहानी सुनकर कोई भी चकरा जाता है। जुनवानी ग्राम के बाशिंदे बताते हैं कि जब भी मानसून समय पर नहीं आता है, गांव में पंचायत बुलाई जाती है। पंचायत में महिला की शव यात्रा निकालने का निर्णय लिया जाता है। उसके बाद किसी महिला की शव यात्रा निकाले जाने की तैयारी होती है। ये उसी वक्त होता है जब बारिश समय पर नहीं होती है। ये परंपरा आसपास के कई गांवों में सदियों से प्रचलित है। इसी तरह रतलाम में मान्यता है कि यदि किन्नर नृत्य साधना करें तो इंद्रदेव प्रसन्न होते हैं। इसी प्रकार वहां भी बारिश के लिए जिंदा महिला की शव यात्रा निकाली जाती है। ऐसी परंपरा कुछ एक और जगह पर भी बताई जाती है। अगर आपके यहां भी ऐसी कोई परंपरा है तो हमसे शेयर जरूर करें।
