ഗ്ലോബല്‍ ആന്റിമൈക്രോബിയല്‍ റസിസ്റ്റന്‍സ്, പ്രിസ്‌ക്രൈബിംഗ് എഫികസി ഇന്‍ നിയൊണേറ്റ്സ് ആന്‍ഡ് ചില്‍ഡ്രന്‍ പദ്ധതിയുടെ ഭാഗമായി വിവിധ നഗരങ്ങളിലെ ആറ് ആശുപത്രികളിലായി 680 കുട്ടികളെയാണ് നിരീക്ഷിച്ചത്. മൂന്നാം തലമുറയിലെ മരുന്നുകളായ (തേര്‍ഡ് ജനറേഷന്‍ സെഫലോസ്പോറിന്‍സ് - 3ജിസി) സെഫ്ട്രിയാക്സ്വണ്‍ പോലുള്ളവ കൂടുതലായി ഡോക്റ്റര്‍മാര്‍ നിര്‍ദേശിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. പഠനത്തിനായി തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത കുറിപ്പടികളില്‍ 35 ശതമാനവും ഇത്തരത്തിലുള്ളവയാണ്. പെന്‍സിലിന്‍ പോലുള്ള ബേസിക് മരുന്നുകള്‍ 19 ശതമാനം മാത്രമാണ് നിര്‍ദേശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.

പാല്‍, ജലം, പച്ചക്കറികള്‍ തുടങ്ങിയവയില്‍ നിന്ന് മരുന്നുകളുടെ അംശം മനുഷ്യശരീരത്തില്‍ ഒട്ടും വീര്യം ചോരാതെ തിരിച്ചെത്തുന്നുണ്ടെന്ന് പഠനം പറയുന്നു. 2 കോടി ലിറ്റര്‍ നദിജലത്തില്‍ ഈ മരുന്നിന്റെ ഒരു ഗ്രാമോ അതില്‍ താഴെയോ ഉണ്ടാകാന്‍ പാടുള്ളു. എന്നാല്‍ വേദനസംഹാരിയായ ഡൈക്ലോഫെനാക് എന്ന മരുന്ന് ഇരട്ടിയിലധികമാണ് കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. ഒരു ലിറ്റര്‍ വെള്ളത്തില്‍ 0.1 മൈക്രോ ഗ്രാം വരെ ഈ മരുന്നിന്റെ അംശം കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ടെന്ന് പുറത്തു വന്ന റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടില്‍ പറയുന്നു.
