Trigger happy trooper opens fire on unarmed man.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol released dashcam footage of an officer involved shooting incident from September 4.
State trooper, Sean Groubert, shot Levar Jones who was unarmed and simply following police orders. Groubert said he stopped Jones for a seatbelt violation.
Groubert then asked Jones for his license but when Jones reached into his vehicle, the officer drew his firearm. As Jones turned around with his wallet in hand, Groubert shot him in the hip. The victim dropped his wallet but the officer continued firing. Groubert shot at least four times over the course of three seconds.
Sean Groubert has since been fired from the South Carolina Highway patrol. The 35-year-old victim Levar Jones and has been released from hospital after being treated for the gunshot wound to his hip.
Groubert is being charged with assault as well as assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. Barney Giese, a lawyer for Groubert told WISTV that his client will plead not guilty to the charges..
