JAMMU LINKS NEWS | A senior PDP leader today claimed that the majority of people in Jammu were against the scrapping of Article 35A of the Constitution which gives special rights and privileges to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
A misconception is being deliberately created that the people of Jammu are in favour of the revocation of the Article 35A,' additional spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Abhijeet Jasrotia told reporters here.
'Like the people of Kashmir and Ladakh region, almost all Dogras are in favour of continuation of the constitutional provision,' he added.
Jasrotia said the residents of Jammu region especially the Dogras were mature enough to understand the threat to their next generation if the act was revoked.
I am myself a Dogra and we are fully aware of the challenges the revocation of the constitutional provision poses. We will not allow this provision to go on the demand of a small group, the PDP leader said.
He said the act was enacted by Maharaja Hari Singh on the recommendation of Kashmiri Pandits and Dogras.
We honour (the) Maharaja and hold him in high esteem. He had come out with this act which is beneficial for us, he said.

JAMMU LINKS NEWS | Civil society organisations and business and trade bodies today kept up their protests against the petitions in the Supreme Court challenging the validity of Article 35A of the Constitution.
Article 35A, which was incorporated in the Constitution by a 1954 Presidential Order, accords special rights and privileges to the Jammu and Kashmir citizens and denies property rights to a woman who marries a person from outside the state.
About 200 members of the Jammu and Kashmir Trade Union staged a peaceful sit-in at the fruit mandi in Parimpora area on the outskirts of the city here, a police official said.
Civil society members, including members of the minority Pandit community, later staged a sit-in at Pratap Park in the heart of the city.

JAMMU LINKS NEWS | Protests against the legal challenge to Article 35A of the Constitution -- which grants special status to the permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir -- continued in the Valley for the third consecutive day today.
In Srinagar, moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led a march from the Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta till Gojwara, a police official said.
The protests took place at several places across Kashmir today, a police official said, adding that the demonstrations remained peaceful.
Another protest march -- led by Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Mohammad Yasin Malik -- was taken out after prayers near Bund here, he said.
Protest marches were also taken out near 'Dastageer Sahib' shrine in Khanyar, in Parimpora, Lal Bazar, near Mehjoor Park in Pantha Chowk and Maisuma areas of the city. The protests rocked Kangan and Sonamarg areas of central Kashmir's Ganderbal district, as well as in Bandipora town of north Kashmir, the official said.
