Watch Micromax has launched the first of its new Yu brand of Cyanogen OS-based smartphones, the Yu Yureka. The company's motto for the brand is 'Yu play god', signifying the two 'pillars' it is based on - customisation and services. The smartphone has been priced at Rs. 8,999, and will go up for registrations via Amazon on Friday (2pm IST) with the launch in the second week of January.

Micromax's CyangennMod powered phone Yu is already creating buzz. Ahead of the phone's December 18 launch, multiple sources have confirmed to IndiaToday.in the Yu phone will be exclusively available via Amazon India.

Micromax adopted a similar strategy for its Android One Canvas A1 smartphone. It was also sold exclusively via Amazon India.

The Indian smartphone vendor is hosting an event on December 18 to launch Yu. Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma is expected at the event. Initially, only one phone is expected to be launched.
