തടിയമ്പാടിന് സമീപം പെരിയാറിലെ തുരുത്തിൽ ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ട മൃഗങ്ങളാണ് പട്ടിണിയിൽ വലഞ്ഞത്. പന്നി, പോത്ത്, പശുക്കൾ, നായ്കൾ, ആടുകൾ എന്നിവയായിരുന്നു തുരുത്തിൽ കുടുങ്ങിയത്. സമീപവാസിയായ ഉടമസ്ഥൻ ഇവയെ തുരുത്തിൽ ഷെഡ് കെട്ടിയാണ് വളർത്തിയിരുന്നത്. അണക്കെട്ടിന്റെ ആദ്യ മൂന്ന് ഷട്ടറുകൾ തുറന്നപ്പോൾ തുരുത്ത് ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നില്ല. എന്നാൽ അഞ്ചു ഷട്ടറുകൾ തുറന്നതോടെ തുരുത്ത് ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ടു.നാലുദിവസമായി ഒന്നും കഴിക്കാതെയുള്ള അവയുടെ കരച്ചിൽ കേട്ടാണ് കുത്തൊഴുക്കുള്ള പുഴകടക്കാൻ ഇയാളെ പ്രേരിപ്പിച്ചത്‌ .
കഴിഞ്ഞദിവസം അരിയുമായി രണ്ടുമൂന്ന് പ്രാവശ്യം തുരുത്തിലേക്ക് നീന്തി. അവിടെയത്തി ചോറുണ്ടാക്കി നായ്ക്കൾക്കും പന്നിക്കും കൊടുത്തു. പശുവിനും ആടുകൾക്കും പോത്തിനും ഇലവെട്ടിയിട്ട് കൊടുത്തു. അധികൃതരാരെങ്കിലും എത്തി മൃഗങ്ങളെ രക്ഷിക്കുമെന്നാണ് അദ്ദേഹം കരുതുന്നത്.
