Amit Jaiswal, 36, and his lover Preeti Surin, reportedly decided to kidnap Ms. Thapar after listening to her boast about her family's wealth and status in Dehra Dun, in the Himalayan foothills of northern India, according to Britain's Daily Telegraph.
The New York Daily News quotes Indian police as saying Amit Jaiswal and his girlfriend Preeti Surin allegedly lured Thapar on a trip with them to the town of Gorakhpur. According to the report, the pair then took Thapar capitve and sent threatening communications to her mother, saying they would force her to make pornographic films if their demands were not met.

Allahabad, 18 April- Bollywood actress Meenakshi Thapa's chopped body parts have been found from Allahabad. Mumbai police revealed the news on Wednesday, on Apr 18.
Earlier on Monday, police arrested Preeti and Amit - the two main accused of the murder case. According to police sources, the body parts were dumped in a water tank near Preeti's house in Allahabad.
Preeti and Amit allegedly lured Meenakshi to get a role of heroine in a Bhojpuri film and thus the model and an aspiring actress (Meenakshi) had gone to Allahabad along with the two accused.
Preeti and Amit, according to police, were under the impression that Meenakshi was from an wealthy family and her family members would not hesitate to give any amount of money if they kidnap Meenakshi.
However, the duo ultimately killed Meenakshi brutally and to confuse the investigative officials about Meenakshi's identification, they beheaded the actress, said police sources.

Thapar, 26, appeared in an Indian horror film in 2011, where she met her alleged killers, actors Amit Jaiswal and Preeti Surin, the report says.
The two lured her on a trip, abducted her, and then demanded almost $50,000 from her family while threatening to make Thapar star in pornography, the report says.
Thapar's mother deposited some of the funds into the actress' account, but she was allegedly killed anyway. The police say she was strangled, beheaded, and then had her body dumped in two separate locations, according to the report.
'She was strangulated in a hotel and her body was hacked into pieces and thrown in a water tank. They threw her head from a moving bus while traveling back to Mumbai,' law enforcement told The Daily Telegraph.
The two were caught with Thapar's mobile phone and admitted to the killing, the police said.
