The company behind the 'Girls Gone Wild' video series featuring scantily clad young women drinking, dancing and stripping, has filed for bankruptcy protection citing $16 million in debts, according to court papers obtained on Thursday.
Privately owned GGW Brands filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in U.S. federal court in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
The Los Angeles company said in a statement that it was seeking reorganization and that the filing would not affect any of domestic or international operations of 'Girls Gone Wild.'
The company, which has sold millions of the racy videos and DVDs since 1997, listed a $10.3 million debt owed to Wynn Resorts casino owner Steve Wynn as its biggest debt.
'Girls Gone Wild' creator Joe Francis was last year ordered to pay Wynn $40 million in damages for defamation and emotional distress. A Los Angeles jury found that Francis had falsely claimed that Wynn threatened his life over a gambling debt.
Another creditor listed in the bankruptcy papers was a woman who won a $5 million lawsuit against 'Girls Gone Wild' after someone exposed her breasts in a bar without her consent for one of company's films.
GGW Brands said it has assets of less than $50,000, according to the court papers.

Detroit's emergency manager has filed a plan to restructure the city's debts in the wake of the largest municipal bankruptcy in US history.
The plan, awaiting approval from a bankruptcy judge, includes cuts to pensions and creditors to drive down the $18bn (£10.8bn) debt.
Funds would also be devoted to demolishing abandoned city properties.
The city initially filed for bankruptcy protection in July 2013.
'Best path forward'
'We must move swiftly to emerge from bankruptcy so that the financial distress harming the city can end,' state-appointed manager Kevyn Orr said in a statement.
'We maintain that the plan provides the best path forward for all parties to resolve their respective issues and for Detroit to become once again a city in which people want to invest, live and work,' he added.
Specifics of the debt relief plan include:
Creditors, including bond insurers, will receive an estimated 20% of their claims
Police and firefighter retirees will receive at least 90% of their pensions, and cost of living allowances will be eliminated
The Detroit Institute of Arts will keep its city-owned art collection, with assistance from foundations and private donors
$1.5bn will be allocated over 10 years to city infrastructure and technology upgrades
The plan is reportedly likely to face obstacles moving forward, including court appeals should it be approved in ba

Octomom' Nadya Suleman Files for Bankruptcy, Reportedly Ready to Do Porn (no touching)
The 'Octomom's' difficult April ended on Monday with her filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in federal court, according to E! Online. But according to TMZ, she is trying to turn her financial ship around — by signing a deal to star in a movie for a porn company.
According to court documents, Nadya Suleman says she has less than $50,000 in assets and owes between $500,000 and $1 million to creditors including Amir Haddadin, the owner of her home; Orkin Pest Control; Kaiser Permanete; Verizon Wireless; Sylvan Learning Center; and others.
Earlier this year, Suleman — who has 14 children, including octuplets born in 2009 — revealed that she was accepting $2,000 per month in food stamps from the state of California.
Suleman's van was vandalized and she received a death threat during an incident at her California home on April 7. Last week, she was the subject of a child services investigation after her former hairdresser went public with photos that reportedly depicted her home as being filthy. Police subsequently determined that there was nothing unusual going on at the home and that Suleman's kids were safe.
TMZ said Suleman has signed on to appear in a porn video for a company that was willing to pay, 'a lot more than the $10,000 she made for [recently] posing topless.' The film will be shot soon, accordin

Nadya Suleman, known to most as Octomom after giving birth to octuplets, has $1 million in debts (and $50,000 in assets) and has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection.
'I have had to make some very difficult decisions this year and filing Chapter 7 was one of them,' she tells E! News. 'But I have to do what is best for my children (there are 14 of them), and I need a fresh start.'
Listed among those she owes are the California DMV, a Christian school, every utility you can think of, DirecTV and a gym, which she owes $500.
Among those difficult decisions she has made would be undressing for a spread in U.K.'s Closer magazine for somewhere between $8,000 and $10,000.
'I have to do what I have to do to take care of my family,' she told Anderson Cooper.
That apparently includes a deal with an adult entertainment company to shoot a video this summer, which a source told TMZ.com is for 'a lot more than the $10,000 she made for posing topless.'
