US actor Harrison Ford has been injured in a small plane crash in Los Angeles.
The 72-year-old, star of the Indiana Jones and Star Wars films, reported engine failure and crash-landed his vintage plane on a Venice golf course.
He was breathing and alert when medics arrived and took him to hospital in a 'fair to moderate' condition, a fire department spokesman said.
His son Ben, a chef in Los Angeles, later tweeted from the hospital: 'Dad is OK. Battered but OK!
Ford's injuries have not been disclosed but website TMZ, which first reported the story, said he suffered 'multiple gashes to his head'.
Shortly after take-off from Santa Monica Airport, he said he was having engine failure and was making an 'immediate return'.
He was the only person on board the plane.
After crash-landing, he was initially treated by two doctors who happened to be at the golf course.
Patrick Butler of the LAFD said they received a 911 emergency call at 14:20 (22:20 GMT) and attended to a 'medium-to-high impact' plane crash at the Penmar Golf Course.
The male victim, aged about 70, was outside the plane when the paramedics arrived, and he was conscious and breathing, the fire spokesman said.
The man suffered 'moderate trauma' and his condition was 'fair to moderate' when he was taken to hospital.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The 72-year-old actor was at the helm of a vintage two-seater fighter plane when a mechanical failure occurred and his aircraft crashed into the Penmar Golf Course.
Mr Ford, best known for his roles as Han Solo in Star Wars and for playing Indiana Jones, reportedly suffered multiples gashes to his head and was left bleeding.
US celebrity website TMZ reported that two doctors who happened to be at the golf course in Venice rushed over to treat the actor who survived the crash.
Emergency personnel soon arrived at the scene and Mr Ford was transported to a nearby hospital.
Witnesses said the Tinseltown icon had to be helped out of the plane but claimed that he was able to use his legs.
At a news conference the LA Fire Department said the pilot, who they would not name, had 'suffered some moderate trauma, was breathing, conscious and alert'.
They added that he was in a 'fair to moderate' condition following the incident which happened around 2:25pm local time.
An earlier post from the LA Fire Department on Twitter claimed the pilot of the plane was in a critical condition - but that was later revised.
They tweeted: '1 small aircraft down on Penmar Golf Course near the Santa Monica airport.
'Solo occupant, an adult male being transported to local hospital in critical condition.
'No other injuries.'

Actor Harrison Ford has been hospitalized after crashing his vintage plane onto a Venice, California golf course when his engine failed Thursday afternoon.
Witnesses say the 72-year-old actor was bleeding profusely from his face when rescuers arrived at the crash scene on Penmar golf course around 2:20pm.
The actor was alert and conscious when firefighters pulled him from the World War II-era plane and onto a stretcher bound for UCLA trauma center. Ford, who has been flying since the 1960s, was the only person in the plane.
Ford's son Ben tweeted around 5pm PT that his father was recovering at the hospital.
'At the hospital. Dad is ok. Battered, but ok! He is every bit the man you would think he is. He is an incredibly strong man,' Ben Ford wrote. 'Thank you all for your thoughts and good vibes for my dad.'
It was initially reported that the actor was in critical condition, but that was later downgraded to fair to moderate condition. Reports say Ford suffered lacerations to his head and possible fractures.

Now, we knew that he was interested in returning and we’ve heard that LucasFilm is interested in doing something with Solo, but this is the first time we’ve heard that Ford will, in fact, return. But Latino Review would not report it unless they heard, from a very reliable source (or sources), that Ford, director J.J. Abrams, screenwriter Michael Ardnt and LucasFilm’s Kathleen Kennedy had discussed this and agreed on it.
While there isn’t a finished script for Episode VII just yet, those four people all have an idea of what’s going to happen, what characters are going to appear and what they’re going to need to make it happen. Ford’s participation is something we assumed but now it sounds like the word is out. And the deal is “done” and ”significant.”
