One man died and eight injured after a van drove into pedestrians near Finsbury Park in north London. The suspect, a 48-year-old man, was detained by the members of the public and then arrested by the police.

According to London ambulance service, the eight injured were taken to hospitals, and many others are being treated at the scene. Muslim leaders said the attack was made to target muslims specifically and have linked it to the recent rise in anti-Muslim hate crime.

PM Theresa May said the police were treating the incident as ‘a potential terrorist attack’. London Mayor Said Khan called it a ‘deliberate, horrific terrorist attack, aimed to target innocent Londoners, many who were finishing prayers during Ramadan’.

Police and armed forces have cordoned the area and search parties have been deployed as well.
