Concerns about recent violence and instability there (in Bangladesh) are shared across the political spectrum.

At a very short notice, (former) Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requested for approval to come for a moment to India. We simultaneously received the request for flight clearance by Bangladesh authorities. She arrived yesterday evening (Monday) in Delhi.

We are in close and continuous touch with the Indian community in Bangladesh through our diplomatic missions. Our border guarding forces have also been instructed to be exceptionally alert in view of this complex situation. In the last 24 hours, we have been in constant touch with authorities in Dhaka.

I seek the understanding and support of the House regarding this sensitive issue of our important neighbour, on which there has always been a strong national consensus.
