Shimla. Himachal's government led by Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has suffered a major setback. Himachal Pradesh High Court has rejected the Water Cess Act and declared it unconstitutional. 40 power companies had reached the court in protest against this act made by the state government. After this order of Himachal Pradesh High Court, now the notification issued by the state government will be considered cancelled.

Giving respect to its neighboring states, Himachal Pradesh wants to say that the water cess implemented by the government in the state does not violate any kind of inter-state treaties.The assertion of Punjab and Haryana that Himachal government's decision to impose water cess is against the Inter-State Water Disputes Act, 1956 is not logical as it does not affect the water released to the neighboring states. Himachal CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has said in the assembly today that none of the provisions of this act violates the water rights of neighboring states.
