In a shocking incident early morning on Friday, an unidentified assailant opened fire on one Sachin Kurtiker a 33-year-old driver as he was riding his bike near Bethora junction. The victim sustained injuries to his back soon after which he was rushed to the hospital for urgent treatment. The incident happed around 6:15 am. The motive behind the attack, the firearm used and the number of attackers are yet to be determined. South Goa Superintendent of Police Sunita Sawant and Ponda police reached on the site immediately for investigation. In a setback to the investigation, the CCTV camera installed by the panchayat was found to be inoperable. The police are now searching through other CCTV camera's in the area.'The victim's statement will be recorded if the doctors declare him fit for this. We have posted policemen around his ward and hospital. Until then we are looking at clues to track down the accused,' an officer told media.
