The Queen of Jazz, Ella Fitzgerald,
is honored with a Doodle on her 96th birthday.
She won 13 Grammy awards! And she also sold more
than 40 million albums, which is amazing.

Ella Fitzgerald had a troublesome childhood,
her father left the family soon after her birth.
Her mother moved over to new York with her and
in the 1920s, she wanted to become a dancer.

She skipped the school later, lived on the street
and had luck to enter a contest at Harlem's Apollo Theater.
This was the start of her singer career.

In 1938 she made a number-one hit: A-Tisket A-Tasket,
few time later a second. In the 1940s her career boomed.
From 1946 she worked with Norman Granz at the Philharmonic.

Her golden time came in the 1950s and '60s. She had an
amazign voice no one could copy. Later in 1989 her
career ended after massive health problems.

Ella Fitzgerald recorded more than 200 albums
and more than 2000 songs..
