A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Northern California on Thursday night and was felt across a large area, according to officials.
The quake was occurred around 8:47 p.m., and its epicenter was 27 miles southwest of Susanville and seven miles west northwest of Greenville, about 150 miles northeast of Sacramento, and zero feet deep, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
A Chico resident told The Times that he felt a slow steady roll that lasted about 30 seconds. People on Twitter reported feeling the quake in Sacramento.
Smaller earthquakes followed, including a magnitude 3.5 temblor at 8:55 p.m..

A powerful magnitude-6.9 earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean off the California coast early Monday, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit about 50 miles west of Eureka and occurred at 10:18 a.m. PDT, 4.3 miles beneath the seabed, according to the USGS.
It was followed by about a half-dozen aftershocks, including one of magnitude-4.6.
There is not believed to be any threat of a tsunami, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
The Humboldt County Sheriff's Department, which oversees most of the populated areas near the quake, says there have been no calls about damage or injuries
'This lasted longer than any earthquake I've ever felt,' Raquel Maytorena, 52, who lives about a mile from the coast in Ferndale near Eureka, told The Los Angeles Times. 'It just kept going and going, very slowly and softly. It was not violent. It almost felt like you were in a boat that was rocking.'
Jana Pursley, a geophysicist with the National Earthquake Information Center, said that based on the area's tectonics and past temblors, damages or casualties were unlikely.

Susan Shephard and her husband Alan Shephard, who run the Quail Lodge at Lake Almanor near Greenville very close to the epicenter, said they were watching 'The Hunger Games' on TV when the whole building started shaking.
'All of a sudden things started falling off the shelves, mirrors fell off the wall, vases fell down to the floor, everything started crashing,' Shephard told the Redding Record-Searchlight. 'It felt like the end of our world.'
The Susanville Fire Department said it had received no reports of damage, and a Plumas County Sheriff's Office dispatcher said calls were flooding into its office but no reports of damage.

Initial reports said the quake, which struck at 8:47 p.m., was a magnitude 5.9.

Chief meteorologist Mark Finan at NBC affiliate KCRA said the quake was felt at the station's studios in downtown Sacramento, about 145 miles south of the epicenter.

The quake about 50 miles west of Eureka on Sunday night was initially reported as a magnitude-6.9. It was felt widely across the region and across the Oregon border, but there were no reports of injuries or damage.
The quake had produced 20 aftershocks of magnitude-3.5 or larger by late Monday morning, and more were expected over the coming days.
'This has been the strongest quake off of the northern California coast since 1992,' said Weather Underground weather historian Christopher Burt.
The last stronger earthquake reported off the north shore of California was on April 25, 1992 when a 7.2 magnitude earthquake occurred off the Mendocino Coast, Burt said.
The quake was felt widely across the region but both fire and sheriff's officials in Humboldt County, which includes most of the populated areas near the epicenter, said early Monday more than four hours after the quake hit that they had no reports of any damage or injuries.
The National Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami danger for the region.
But more than 3,000 people reported on the USGS website that they felt the quake. Some reported a long, rolling shake that woke children or knocked items off shelves. Some of those respondents live across the border in Oregon.

Jakarta, Indonesia -- A massive earthquake struck off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra on Wednesday afternoon, triggering a tsunami alert for the Indian Ocean.
The quake struck about 434 kilometers (270 miles) southwest of Banda Aceh, the capital of Indonesia's Aceh province, and had a magnitude of 8.6, the U.S. Geological Survey said. It took place at a depth of 23 kilometers (14 miles).
The tremor revived fearful memories of the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami in the region in 2004 that killed tens of thousands of people.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said Wednesday that it had issued a tsunami watch for the entire Indian Ocean, and the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said it had put up a tsunami warning.
The Indonesian president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, said on local television that there were no reports of casualties or damage in Aceh so far.
The areas most at risk of a tsunami are coastal areas of Aceh, particularly the island of Simeulue, Prih Harjadi, an official for the Indonesian geophysics agency said on Metro TV.
