British writer Kazuo Ishiguro was awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize for Literature on Thursday. The Swedish Academy praised him as a writer 'who, in novels of great emotional force, has uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world'.

The 62-year-old became the 114th Nobel laureate in Literature. He will receive the Nobel Prize worth, approximately, nine million Kronor ($1.4 million).

He has written eight books, which have been translated into over 40 languages. He has also received the Man Booker Prize for The Remains Of The Day and Never Let Me Go which were adapted into films.

When asked about the prize, the writer said the award was 'flabbergastingly flattering'.

Kazuo was born in Nagasaki, Japan, in 1954, and moved to England when his father was offered a post as oceanographer in Surrey. He studied English and Philosophy at the University of Kent, and studied MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia. Kazuo Ishiguro was made an OBE in 1995.
